Golf balls questions I see a lot of:
Are pro’s golf balls different?
-The ones I use which is the 2023 prov1X is exactly the same ones that you can buy anywhere. Yes, there are different versions that we have access to. Certain pros play the Prov1 left dot which is super low spin.
-There’s talk about how pros play much better equipment than amateurs but I promise you those are all really marginal. Tom Brady liked to throw footballs that are deflated but does that mean he couldn’t throw a normal football or that amateurs could throw more like Brady if they threw deflated ones? It’s all really marginal stuff. There’s plenty of great options that amateurs have access to. The pros equipment only differ because we have much higher club head speed which means we need slightly different lofts, shafts, and balls. Heck I play a 11 degree driver and S-300 iron shafts.
How many golf balls do we get?
-Titleist gives me 3 dozen for the week. I go thru 2 sleeves a tournament day because after 1 or 2 full wedge shots, there’s a pretty big scuff. Does it really make a difference? Very rarely but you never know.
What do we do with all the extras?
-We give them away to fans/kids or there’s a huge First Tee bin in the lockerroom that we throw in that’ll go to the first tee in the area.
Range balls
-They are practice balls of the ones we play. There’s multiple volunteers sitting on the range sorting each ball to the correct bin. They used to have PRACTICE on them but they changed it to Tour. They used to be the ones you could buy at a discounted rate because they had small misprints or small mistakes or something. Not sure if that’s still the case.
