@MissHPrimary_ It happens all the time in HE. PhD students encouraged to apply for a Post Doc position in same dept then don’t even get interview. I think at least interview them so they get experience for next job. Don’t be downhearted you may have been up against a very strong candidate

VCs are wrecking our universities with their relentless attacks on staff.
This week my former colleague is teaching a module I created last year with my content and activities. They are stressed, want help & they are/were a friend, but it’s hard to be sympathetic when they didn’t stand up for me when I was made redundant and the module given to them.

I welcome the new requirement by funders for bullying and harassment disclosures but have some reservations. It is expected that you include Heads and Directors of relevant centres or departments in the application or it will make your application look weak and not supported 1/3
But it also means we are reluctant to report bullying and harassment of these people for fear of the negative influence on our grant application. This has happened to me when the HoD needed to sponsor my fellowship so I have suffered their bullying for another 6months 2/3
It 2:30am & I’ve been trying to get to sleep for the past 3 hours but thoughts of my job or soon to be lack of it are going around my head. I’m expected to teach and give advice to PGT students at 9am. I don’t think the Unis appreciate how much impact redundancies have on us all
@lestageog Sometimes you feel you are being discriminated against in the way you are being treated, until you realise it’s not because you are female or disabled it’s because they treat everyone equally as bad.
@lestageog As a cis straight female I feel I can’t post things like this but I agree 💯%. They are so focused on appearing to be leaders in on trend EDI issues that they ignore basic valuing of staff and mental health of all staff.
@gelomerase I do this all the time. Especially if I am reconstituting something the whole lab uses. I can live with having to add 34.2ul each time I make the buffer because I did my original calculations wrong but telling the rest of the lab to use 34.2ul and not the regular 10ul is too much
EDI course mentioned so many examples of bullying which are common here, then warns the Uni could be liable to unlimited damages if these are proven to have occurred. I almost expected a phone number at the end for ‘no fee lawyers if you think you have a claim’ #AcademicTwitter

I wanted to resign at Christmas but felt guilty for my 10 dissertation students so I didn’t, then two months later I’m being made redundant and replacing me with my recorded lectures from this year. Don’t feel guilty as loyalty doesn’t go both ways.
