What happened?
Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia sued the NCAA in November, saying that the 2 years he spent playing in JUCO, before getting a Division 1 offer, should NOT count toward his Division 1 eligibility time BECAUSE “the junior college season has no meaningful opportunities to earn NIL, no television exposure.” When filing the lawsuit, Pavia asked a judge to order an injunction (legal time-out until the decision is officially made) to allow him to compete in the 2025 season.

What happened then?
Right before the holiday break, a judge granted him the injunction – allowing him to compete while the case proceeds.

New JUCO Eligibility?
The week after Pavia’s injunction, the NCAA Division I Board of Directors approved an extra year of eligibility in 2025-26 for athletes who played at non-NCAA schools (like JUCOs) and would’ve run out of eligibility after 2024-25.
Meanwhile, the NCAA announced it would fight the ruling.
