Thanks for highlighting this.
To add some context: The Japanese Communist Party is the oldest political party in Japan, with a 104-year history. Before WWII, it became a target of suppression because it opposed Japan’s imperialist wars.
In the postwar period, despite facing intense pressure from MacArthur, Stalin, and Mao Zedong, the party stood firm and established a path of sovereign independence. It is a genuinely progressive party, rare in the world today.
I ratio’d Geoff Keighley 😭💀
Honestly though, I believe that the show representing the industry, OUR the Oscars needs to be more fair to nominees and not fall into feeling like it is ran by fanboys of one game.
Just because a specific game is GOTY should never mean it must win EVERY category its nominated for.
More games deserved to be on stage today than just one, Clair Obscur is GOTY but the other nominees deserved their own time to shine too and actually be on stage rather than Geoff speeding through awards without presenting them, and giving one game everything.
Its OK for another game to win best RPG, we all know Clair Obscur is GOTY but it isnt GOTY off its RPG mechanics. We all know Clair Obscur has amazing art direction but you could’ve given that award to highlight another gorgeous game on stage like Hades 2!
There is a reason stuff like this never happens at The Academy or The Oscars, it is simply unprofessional and not representative of the indistry to highlight just one thing.
An eye clinic in Japan is posting a notice apologizing for being closed because a relative has won a Nobel Prize and they are traveling to Stockholm for the award ceremony.
This is the coolest sign I’ve ever seen.
