“...it makes them feel like they’re not alone. We can communicate [in] the same language. We can understand the same pain.” -@Refugee_One home visitor Winnie Akello on the shared refugee experience. @NationalHVRC https://t.co/3qfLrVLU5Y
Today marks six months of war and destruction since Russia's invasion.
Today we also mark six months that RefugeeOne has worked tirelessly to support 570 Ukrainian refugees, like Kateryna, helping them rebuild their lives here in Chicago.
Thank you all for your support.
Last week we welcomed two Burmese refugee families on the same day! Co-sponsor teams help prepare the way, stocking and setting up apartments and joining us at the airport for arrival. Volunteers from their teams will continue to visit weekly as these families adjust to Chicago.
We're so thrilled for Ameera, who recently became a U.S. citizen!
Ameera originally came to the United States as a refugee and has since dedicated her time working with CWS Harrisonburg to help other refugees adjust to living in the U.S. Congrats, Ameera! 🎉
“I arrived here in the winter; it was really difficult for me… in the beginning,” said Zaland in an interview with the Chicago Tribune. With the help of RefugeeOne, they’ve found gainful employment and rebuilt their lives in the U.S.

There is no excuse for the fact that Afghans who risked their lives to fight alongside American service members are still living in limbo. Tell Congress to pass the #AfghanAdjustmentAct.

Summer time means its Soccer time. At RefugeeOne our youth get to play a scrimmage weekly at a soccer camp run by @allkidsplayusa. This international sport is enjoyed by everyone, and not only gets in a good exercise but is a lot of fun for all involved!
