Burnham's speech is all just unicorns farting rainbows over Manchester. Nothing about the thorny problems of debt & deficits, high energy costs or immigration. He's not a serious politician.

Just heard Andy Burnham’s speech
Not a word about immigration
Not a word about net zero
Not a word about welfare payment excesses.
Not even a word about his views on Europe - except he will back British businesses - which you can’t do if back in the EU
Oh dear. Trouble ahead!
Burnham's speech borders on the utopian. The belief that politics can be about consensus rather than confrontation.
That arguments can be somehow done away with if we all hold hands and sing kum ba yah.
The reason we have politics is *because* we disagree. Banishing arguments is not possible, practicable, or desirable.
There is a bit of a Gap Year vibe to Andrew Burnham’s Manchesterism. It’s all a bit “I had this amazing experience in a yurt and now you all have to try it.”
