This incredibly detailed net is carved entirely out of a single block of marble... (Il Disinganno by Francesco Queirolo, 1752)
Completed in 1752, Il Disinganno (“Disillusion”) is one of the masterpieces of the Baroque era and remains among the most technically astonishing marble sculptures ever created. Sculpted by Francesco Queirolo for the Sansevero Chapel in Naples, the work depicts a man being freed from a net by an angel, symbolizing liberation from sin and ignorance through reason and faith.
What makes the sculpture famous is the delicate mesh draped around the figure. Rather than being added separately, the entire net was carved from the same block of marble as the rest of the monument. The task was considered so difficult that many sculptors reportedly refused to attempt it, fearing the fragile strands would shatter during carving.
The Sansevero Chapel itself is renowned for pushing the limits of 18th-century sculpture, combining artistic skill, symbolism, and engineering precision. More than 270 years after its completion, visitors still marvel at the illusion of soft fabric and woven cord created from solid stone.
The chapel also houses Giuseppe Sanmartino’s Veiled Christ (1753), another celebrated sculpture whose marble veil appears almost transparent despite being carved from a single block of stone.
DICE HAVE NO EYES🎲
DICE HAVE NO EYES made my inner degenerate gambler come crawling out of my soul to KEEP ON ROLLING!
Developed by Franek with help from Max Cahill, DICE HAVE NO EYES is a roguelike “dice-builder”? Definitely the first game I’ve tried in this genre, and with that I can gladly say I was seriously impressed.
GAMEPLAY LOOP
The game refuses to tell you a thing when you begin your first run.
Just shut the hell up and roll the dice.
The gameplay loop is relatively simple:
Roll your dice and try to form combinations (3 of a kind, straights, etc.). The more difficult the combination, the higher the score.
Every level has a point threshold you must reach in order to progress. Between levels, players can purchase trinkets, dice, and spells to help with future rounds.
Rolling a 1 is considered a bust, and after 4 busts you’ll need to reset the level.
Fail 3 level resets and the run is over.
ART DIRECTION
I think the developers’ creative style shines most through the little things.
The power-ups and spells are intricate, and somehow petting your little dice genuinely feels intimate. The dramatization of flipping a single coin or rolling a single die can make you heavily anxious!
Ironically, while all this chaos and stress is happening, the soundtrack stays calm and polite in the background with soft melodies that never overpower the experience.
FINAL THOUGHTS
SCORE: 8.8/10
I played for around 2.5 hours to complete the early access/demo currently available on Steam, and I truly believe this game can only go up from here.
It’s already fantastic, and the development team plans to continue building on an already strong foundation.
Every roguelike has that first “A-HA!” moment where you suddenly realize the developers’ decisions are incredibly intentional. My moment came once I figured out how to really take advantage of momentum building and I wont say much more to avoid ruining the experience!
Essentially, the early access already feels remarkable in the same way great roguelikes do.
I had a fantastic time with this one and absolutely recommend it to anyone interested in roguelikes!
