Another disaster strikes Afghanistan.

Over 100 killed by flash floods in North Eastern provinces.

Already vulnerable have seen their homes and livestock swept away.

@ARCSAfghanistan, @ifrc, @ICRC, and Movement partners rapidly deploying medical assistance, tents and aid.

Wrapping up another visit to Afghanistan. Met IEA ministers and leaders, male and female doctors, arrivals from Pakistan, rural communities, and male and female Afghan colleagues.

On the surface, I have never seen Afghanistan look so peaceful. Peel back a layer, and the struggling health service, high unemployment, spiking acute malnutrition, and endemic mental health crisis tell another story.

Afghanistan has slipped far from the headlines, but for @ifrc - it remains a priority for long term support as well as emergency aid.

Some of the poorest and most vulnerable people in the world live around these districts of Kandahar, Afghanistan.

@ifrc is working with @ARCSAfghanistan and @gatesfoundation to deliver routine immunization.

It addresses one major risk. There are so many others to consider.

Now, it is an office to one of the world's major economies and powers.

It’s the greatest honour of my life to start my second term as @ifrc Secretary General today.

I am grateful to serve alongside talented & dedicated staff and volunteers across the world to save lives, to build resilience, to influence decisions while upholding our fundamental principles and values.

Modesty is a virtue in my home country Nepal. And that is what I have carried with me throughout my life. I will not, however, be modest in my commitment to address today’s polycrises with the highest degree of dedication.

I am committed to listening, learning and leading our great organization with humility but with the vigor required to confront our greatest challenges.

After eliminating this disease in 2016, Filariasis is back in the Maldives.

Spread through mosquito bites, it causes swelling of body parts and other complications.

To combat the spread, @maldivianrc is supporting clean-up activities of the govt, through @IFRC_DREF

Seems like a big impact by a M7.4 earthquake & a series of aftershocks in Ishikawa Japan. Major Tsunami warning of 1-5 meter has been issued.

Another year of suffering and tragedy on the Andaman Sea is a reminder that there are no humanitarian solutions to complex emergencies such as displacement from Myanmar, only political ones.

Until those solutions are found, we need to show humanity to those forced to flee.@ifrc
