This week, @rhnkorg participated in AfricaXchange 2026, one of Africa’s premier convenings on development finance and systems change convened by the @RockefellerFdn and the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation.
Our Executive Director, @nellymunyasia, joined a high-level panel convened by @coimpactcollab alongside John Mugo, Executive Director at Mizizi Elimu Foundation; Kenneth Ogendo, Director of External Affairs – Policy, Advocacy & Partnerships at @LwalaCommunity; and Lucy Kimondo, Ag. Director General at @NCPD_Kenya. The session, titled From Capital to Capability: Financing Systems that Deliver for People at Scale, asked a question that sits at the heart of development in Africa today: what does it actually take to move money into movements?
The discussion challenged dominant approaches to development financing, emphasizing the need to strengthen and organise systems so that capital can flow effectively. It underscored the importance of shifting from fragmented platforms and siloed interventions toward integrated, locally anchored systems that enable scale and sustainability. It also highlighted the need to reposition young people not as beneficiaries, but as active builders of solutions.
A key theme that emerged was the importance of mindset in shaping development outcomes. The conversation reinforced that Africa already holds significant capital, infrastructure, and entrepreneurial capacity. What is required now is stronger alignment, discipline, and confidence in African-led solutions — grounded in development sovereignty and anchored in local priorities, institutions, and ownership.
In the same spirit, we had the privilege of hosting Elizabeth Yee, Executive Vice President of Programs at the @RockefellerFdn and @coimpactcollab Board Member, during a site visit to RHNK at @RehnetMed Center in Kwa Ndege, Embakasi, alongside Mary Wandia, Regional Director for Africa at @coimpactcollab. The visit was led by @nellymunyasia, who guided the team through RHNK’s integrated model advancing sustainable, locally led change in sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).
The visit offered a closer look at how RHNK is expanding access to essential SRHR services in underserved urban communities — through youth-friendly services, social enterprise models that improve commodity access, and the @NenaNaBinti Call Center, which provides confidential counseling, referrals, GBV response, and mental health support.
At RHNK, this is not a talking point. It is how we work. From the Her Health Initiative to our county-level SRHR programmes, we build systems that governments can own and sustain. We train young people to lead. We connect health to the broader conditions that determine whether people thrive.
AfricaXchange 2026 reminded us that this work is part of a continent-wide conversation and that Kenya is not waiting.
