The goal of scientific writing is not to make yourself sound smart or demonstrate everything you know. The goal is to give the reader only exactly what they need to know to understand what you want to communicate. Good writing is an act of empathy with the reader.
This isn’t a party political point by the way. There is a deep malaise affecting public life. MPs are paid by all of us; they represent all of us - all of our interests, not just those of their political tribe or party members. This applies particularly to ministers.
