Christophe Soumillon told the panel he had seen a group of schoolchildren on the bend earlier in the day and that he had moved Puerto Rico away from the rail over concerns their presence would disadvantage his horse
๐ฃ๏ธ "When I walked the track, there was a big group of kids. There were probably 50 kids near the rail on the inside, just at the entrance to the straight.
"So that was a place where I thought, maybe I should stay a little bit away from there, because when you have a horse in front, you want him to concentrate and not getting disturbed and losing his momentum for any reason.
"In Longchamp, he hangs out really badly in the last 200 metres. Because he's like like this, I wanted to make sure that this didn't happen."
@corachsamason Prize money is poor here. Jockeys are deducted for insurance, travel, valet, agent, Union. Evening rides can be a problem if youโre doing a lot of travelling.Theyโre almost guaranteed at least a few injuries throughout their careers. Dangerous work.
