شامگاه جمعه ٨ تیر ١٤٠٣، نیاه اموای کودک ١٤ ساله امریکایی-میانماری که والدینش از میانمار به ایالات متحده مهاجرت کرده بودند با شلیک مزدوران پلیس ایالت نیویورک به قتل رسید. پلیس در حالی به او شلیک کرد که نیاه روی زمین افتاده بود و یک مامور دیگر پلیس در حال مشت کوبیدن به سر و صورتش بود. پلیس ادعا کرده بود که نیاه مسلح بوده اما پس از قتل مشخص شد که او تنها یک اسلحه‌ی پلاستیکی اسباب بازی در دست داشته است.
