.@AGToddRokita just filed a motion to intervene in the federal case requiring Unit 1 of the Rockport coal plant to close by 2028, and this fight matters more than you might think.

So why retire reliable, dispatchable generation just as electricity demand is expected to surge?

Rokita is asking the court to overturn the provision requiring Unit 1 to close, and his office says it is also working separately to keep Unit 2 operating.

Indiana’s energy future should be decided by Hoosiers—not by judges hundreds of miles away in Ohio.

Today our office filed a motion to intervene in federal court to stop the scheduled 2028 closure of the Rockport power plant in Spencer County. This follows my April meeting with local leaders from Rockport and Spencer County, where we discussed the serious impact this closure would have on the community.

This plant supports 170+ direct jobs, provides critical tax revenue for schools and emergency services, and delivers reliable, affordable power that our growing state needs. With electricity demand projected to more than double in the coming years, we cannot afford to lose 2,600 megawatts of capacity.

Outdated consent decrees and federal overreach should not force the early retirement of a safe, paid-down energy source. We’re fighting to keep this plant available as long as Indiana needs it.

We’re standing up for workers, ratepayers, local communities and proudly putting our state first.

President Trump announced the expansion of the Ratepayer Protection Plan.

@GovBraun recently signed the #RatepayerProtectionPledge.

Under the plan, data center operators, NOT ratepayers, are responsible for the costs of the electricity & infrastructure their projects require.

Indiana's coal plants run at just 34.5% capacity, well behind IL (45.8%), OH (52%), MI (53.9%), and KY (57.4%).

A new analysis found Indiana's coal fleet produces electricity at $55.22/MWh, even at low utilization. Push it to 70% capacity, and the cost drops to $44/MWh.
