📚🏥 In refugee-hosting districts, we work with @OPMUganda and local governments to improve access to quality education and health services for refugees and host communities.
🎒 Over 4,000 refugee children accessed schooling, scholastic materials, menstrual hygiene products, life skills sessions and peer-led sexual and reproductive health education.
🩺 More than 13,000 refugees benefited from strengthened health services in Kyegegwa through medical equipment, maintenance of health facility equipment, user training and buffer stocks of essential medicines.
🌱 We believe that investing in education and health creates a stronger foundation for refugees and host communities to thrive together.

As World Refugee Day approaches on June 2026, the Numbers demanding our attention are escalating, Uganda a home to over 2 million refugees, the largest refugee population in Africa, is watching its celebrated self-reliance model collapse in real time. Malnutrition has crossed the WHO emergency threshold. Food assistance for nearly 1 million refugees has been halted entirely. Health centers are closing. And the policy response has been to restrict access to asylum.
We have been here before. And we keep responding the same way, jerry cans, malaria nets, tents, and emergency appeals that are funded at less than half of what is needed.
That is not a solution. That is a cycle.
The question World Refugee Day must force us to answer is not how much aid we can mobilize. It is why, after two decades of progressive refugee law, 71% of refugees in Uganda remain outside the formal labor market, not because they lack skills or the will to work, but because the administrative system makes it structurally impossible.
A refugee with an accounting degree cannot get a job because a work permit form requires a passport she does not have. A businessman from Khartoum builds a thriving store in Kampala but must register it under a Ugandan national's name because the banking system treats him as a flight risk, despite refugee loan repayment rates exceeding 96%, according to Kiva data.
This is not a humanitarian problem. It is a governance problem. And governance problems have governance solutions.
we are calling on policymakers makers to move beyond emergency optics and act on the structural shifts, and Ask people of concern.

For Adolph, finding safety in Uganda meant reclaiming a simple right: the peace to sleep without fear.
The right to seek safety is a lifeline.
