I agree with some Deltarune Criticism but people making a big ass fuss about it not being a standard rpg and that it having different gameplay each chapter makes it a worse game is pissing me off bro, god forbid a game dos something unique for once and not do the standard
Respectfully but, no man just no.
To the point of Riot making a platform fighter and gone a "Melee" route? Yeah nah, there are a ton of Smash clones that did NOT get played like that TRIED this so called "Melee Route". Let's go down the list of games that followed that trend big dawg. You're going to notice a clear trend in this list...
Nick All Star Brawl 1 & 2 - Not played like that
Rushdown Revolt - Not played like that (this game was fire imo)
Flash Party - Not played like that
BrawlOut - Not played like that
Multi-Versus - We know why this died, no words
Fraymakers - Not played like that
Slap City - Not played like that
Rivals of Aether - Hanging on by a thread thanks to Ludwig...This man LITERALLY paid for players to play at Evo this year inflating numbers to keep it alive. Kinda proving a point here...
Brawlhalla - For some reason people act like this game don't exist despite how well its doing...
With all that said you said there are 4 relevant platform fighters? 2 of them likely being Smash Melee and Ultimate while the other 2 are what? Rivals of Aether and Brawlhalla I'm guessing? I just listed mad games here and 1 of them I think was crazy fun (Rushdown Revolt) to play yet where is the player base you speak of? Based off what you're saying and the current trend of all these games listed being Melee esque (clearly being a love letter to the Smash community in all of them) have all unfortunately failed for one reason or another. I assume its lack of Nintendo characters but I digress. I'm primarily pointing out to you that this trend has tried and failed.
Now I know you mean well here but to be totally honest with you my G this ain't it. There's many other reasons why 2XKO is in this predicament. But your reasoning here on this one, most certainly is NOT one of those reasons.
riot killing 2xko has killed what little drive and passion i had left playing and grinding a competitive fighting game, and honestly, even just games in general.
league of legends fighting game was a dream for me my whole life and i’m glad i got to see it happen.
To anyone upset about this news, two pieces of advice:
1) Support your locals and the games you love
2) A legion of people with sub-2 hours in this game will have Opinions for you about it. Protect your peace.
WE HAD A SOMEWHAT COMPETENT GAME
IT WAS BEING PLAYED AT MAJORS
WE HAD 7 YEARS WORTH OF HYPE
100+ POSSIBILE CHARACTERS
YOU JUST HAD TO BLOW IT ALL UP
YOU AND YOUR LAYOFFS AND YOUR CORPORATE GREED
This is tough. It’s not the outcome that any of us had hoped for. I’ve been playing fighting games for over 30 years, made so many amazing friends along the way and have been lucky to experience some unbelievable moments across many legendary titles. I dreamed of one day creating something special for the FGC to help enable even more of those moments. I wanted to give back to the community that had given me so much.
2XKO is the culmination of that dream. This is a dream shared by every member of our team. The amount of love and passion everyone who has ever worked on this game has put into it is unreal. The team delivered a fighting game where you could fight against your friends or choose to take on the world together alongside them. They delivered and elevated League of Legends champions in ways that only a fighting game could.
We made a called shot when 2XKO was born as a mixed mode solo/duo game that if two of the top 8 slots of Evo were Duos, then we have achieved our goal of making playing with a friend a competitively viable endeavor in fighting games. The Evo crowd was treated with the first 2XKO top 8 match on finals day being a duo vs duo match sending one team home and deciding who is the strongest duo. This was unbelievably special for the team.
Even though we are ending active development at the end of the year, I am glad that folks will be able to play 2XKO beyond that, and that the love poured into it will live on. The team is giving everything they’ve got to deliver a final version of 2XKO to you that everyone can be proud of. We can’t wait for you to play Lux and Samira, so please look forward to them.
Thank you to everyone who has worked on 2XKO for creating a really special game, and thank you to all of the players who created moments we will never forget.
Fighting games have genuinely changed my view on reality. No troll.
I want to share the inner mechanisms of my mind. This is gonna come across as EXTREMELY egotistical, but there’s kinda no other way around it lol.
I’ve never felt challenged in any of the 18 competitive videogames I’ve played.
No, I’m not saying that none of them were challenging.
I’m saying that I’ve never felt any real sensation of doubt, uncertainty, or significant pressure at any point during any of my climbs from the bottom of ranked ladders to the pinnacle.
Of course, at times it’s felt REALLY fucking difficult to improve and rank up. Especially during the harder games - Overwatch, Valorant, Deadlock, and especially League of Legends.
There’s MANY reasons as to why those games are objectively hard as fuck.
But, at no point during any of them have I EVER even been able to conceptualize a wall that genuinely made me feel nervous.
My journey into competitive gaming began 15 years ago, when I was 11.
My first taste of dominance came through playing Wizard101 PvP on my family computer and Call of Duty MW3 on my Xbox360.
It was never hard. That fact remained true, even as I branched out into other games.
I downloaded League of Legends in season 3. I hit Diamond in my first season of playing ranked, S5. The next season I played ranked was S9, I hit Master. The third season I played ranked was S11, and I reached Challenger.
I hit Top 500 during the first season of Overwatch ranked, during summer 2016.
I installed VALORANT in the summer of 2021. 5 months and 500 total games later, I hit Radiant.
None of these roads were simply sunshine and rainbows. I’ve tilted, suffered unfathomable loss streaks, raged, and been incredibly demoralized. At times, I’ve even considered giving up.
But, none of these struggles have ever penetrated beyond the furthest, most superficial layer of my conscious mind.
Every time that the initial flare of negative emotions from that perceived level of difficulty passed, my deepest self always knew that there was a flat 100.00% chance that I would eventually climb and reach the absolute highest rank on.
And year after year, game after game, that prophecy always came true.
No pressure, no doubt, no difficulty.
At some point, it began to just feel inevitable. And because it felt so inevitable, so guaranteed, and so easy; Reaching the highest rank in a game has never carried any feeling alongside it.
For the first time ever, things are different.
For the first time ever, victory doesn’t feel guaranteed.
For the first time ever, I’m aware of a wall of difficulty that surpasses my current level of comprehension.
For the first time ever, I feel pressure seeping past my skin and through my bones. Pressure that reaches my deepest self and asks me, “Can you do it?”
For the first time in god knows how long, I’m met with a challenge that ignites every fiber of my being with the irresistible desire to surpass my limits, get stronger, and do whatever it takes to win.
I feel weak again.
200 hours of playing fighting games has overwritten 15 years of absolute dominance.
And truly, I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity.
