Feeling so grateful for our teachers and staff. Every single person brings the whole of who they are to their job and our school is better because of the leaders in it. I am inspired every day to work harder and do better. Sometimes it’s important to say these things out loud.
And I tip my cap to Dr. @Jalane_Schmidt, who’s rightly grinning ear to ear today. She taught Charlottesville and the country why these statues have to go.
This will be my 39th 'first day of school' and yet it is the first of its kind. Social distancing, masks, hybrid classrooms, Zoom orientations....
But what makes this year special--on top of all the unique circumstances right now-- is our absolutely incredible group of faculty.
Renaissance School teachers are not only bright and talented, but they are also thoughtful and caring and charismatic. They come in ready to listen and engage. No one should take good teachers for granted EVER, but especially this year.
I am so excited and honored to be a part of this year’s Heads of School cohort at Columbia University’s Teacher’s college! It’s time to be a student again!
New from me for @cville_weekly: @k12albemarle banned cell phones from school for all middle schoolers at the beginning of the academic year. See how the new policy — and others like it — are playing out locally. ⬇️

It was a beautiful afternoon for a walking history lesson. Thank you Dr. Schmidt and Dr. Douglas for your time and commitment to broadening our understanding of local history.
So I just saw this picture of Mr. Harrison’s English class, which is next to my office. I’d like to point out his class is NEVER quietly reading as this picture implies! They are awesomely loud and engaged in interesting discussions!
I just wrapped up two fantastic meetings! I’m so excited to work with this year’s Yearbook Committee and Student Ambassadors. Yet another reminder of how awesome our students are!
