@ASNKidney I hope that nephrology once again embraces holistic care of
dialysis and transplant patients and finally establishes renal rehabilitation
as a necessary and essential nephrology subspecialty.
@proychaudhuryMD@ASNKidney@UNCKidney@UNCDeptMedicine Dr. Kolff made this statement 50 years ago. I would ask why there are no renal rehabilitation programs in the U.S.? Why is the word "rehabilitation" never mentioned on the IDEAS conference web site or in its agenda? Do technology improvements rehabilitate dialysis patients?
@KidneySW@eugelin06@rheault_m @dwein003 @LTummalapalli@ASNAdvocacy@Kidney_X@AdvocacyAspn As a patient, would you want a captain that belongs to an professional organization (ASN) that does NOT recognize the need for renal rehabilitation? Nephrologists still turf (a la The House of God) this responsibility in their care of dialysis patients.
@GrahamAbra@RPANephrology Over 50 years ago, Dr. Belding Scribner said, "If the treatment of chronic uremia cannot fully rehabilitate the patient, the treatment is inadequate."
In 2018, there are still no renal rehabilitation programs in the United States. The RPA white paper also fails to address this.
