If you’re asked to pick today between Lamine Yamal and Yan Diomande, the answer is obviously Lamine.
But in about 18 months or maybe less, I’m not sure it’s going to be as clear cut.
Enzo Fernandez is a midfielder that:
— Cannot create.
— Cannot move the ball faster than Sunday league pace.
— Cannot receive the ball on the turn or between the lines.
— Cannot stop opposition attacks.
£100 Million for “box crashing” and the odd good cross. Bizarre.
there are two types of strikers: the haalands and the harry kanes.
even the greatest striker ever cannot score in every game, but this is what differentiates the haalands from the harry kanes.
these were their respective performances today. neither of them scored, but harry kane contributed and had a clear impact on the pitch, just as he does in almost every game. unlike haaland, who, if he doesn’t score, you wouldn’t even know whether he’s on the pitch or not.
this is precisely why i don’t entertain the haaland comparisons with the all-time greats (r9, benzema, suarez, mbappe and lewandowski). there’s more to being a generational striker than camping in the box and waiting for an opportunity to score.
