Happy Cinco de Mayo! Chicago is home to one of the largest Mexican American populations in the country, and today we celebrate this vibrant and rich culture.
On May Day, we honor the brave men and women who struggled in the fight for workersโ rights and workplace dignity. I will always stand with the working people of Illinois.
This week, we concluded a series of hearings in the Illinois House on data centers, where we heard about how data center development affects residents and communities, energy use and the impact on utility bills and finally, water usage and conservation.
My takeaways? We need to put guardrails in place to ensure data centers pay their share of new energy demand, utilize renewable energy sources, and adhere to strict water efficiency standards. It's critical that we protect residents from escalating energy costs, limit pollution and noise emissions from diesel generators, and require an assessment of community impacts from data centers along with transparent reporting on resource usage.
We must put people first as we work to address the challenges presented by rapid data center development in Illinois and beyond.

An important step forward to elevate the issues important to people with disabilities in Illinois...thank you @RepBobMorgan for advancing this critical legislation.
My bill, HB 862, has passed the House - a major step forward for disability rights in Illinois. This bill creates the Dept. of Disability Advocacy and Guardianship, elevating the current commission to a Cabinet-level agency to strengthen accountability and transparency. (1/2)
Today I joined @DanaCBS2 on @cbschicago to discuss a series of hearings we're holding on data centers in Illinois. Our hearings have explored the impact of data centers on our utility bills, environmental concerns regarding air quality and water usage, and local community impacts. As the technology advances rapidly and demand grows, we must ensure we have guardrails in place and that people and communities come first.
