Nearly 100 days into military operations in Iran, Congress is doing what it should have done from the beginning: asserting its Article 1 constitutional authority. Today, I voted for the War Powers Resolution because the American people deserve transparency, our troops deserve a clear strategy, and no administration should bypass Congress in matters of war. It's a crisis moment for our farmers.

Farm bankruptcies are up 46% since last year, and between tariffs, rising fertilizer costs, immigration-related labor shortages, and USDA program cuts, President Trump's policy agenda that has only made life harder for our agriculture communities and industries.

I introduced legislation barring current Presidents from “branding” our country’s memorials and institutions. Our nation’s treasures belong to all of us, not just to a President bent on self-promotion, self-enrichment, and legacy branding. 

Moreover, not only must Trump’s name be removed from the Kennedy Center, it is vital that this institution be allowed to continue operations and not languish because of political grudges or neglect. The Kennedy Center was created as a memorial for a fallen President and to uplift the arts – not to be fallen by a current President consumed by ego.

This Florida lawsuit only further highlights the need for Congressional action, and the dire need to prevent foreseeable harms to our kids when tech companies put profit ahead of safety.  It’s why I introduced the bipartisan Algorithm Accountability Act with Rep. Mike Kennedy of Utah. Tech companies should be held liable for algorithmic curated products which impact kids’ health and well being.

Trump just posted a full-blown essay melting down over today’s federal court ruling requiring his name to be removed from the Kennedy Center and preventing him from shutting it down. Trump blames Barack Obama and the “Radical Left” while declaring he’s no longer interested in running the institution.

When Donald Trump turned the Kennedy Center into a monument to himself, I introduced legislation to stop him.

Today, a federal judge—following @RepBeatty’s legal challenge—ruled that Trump's name was illegally added and reaffirmed that only Congress has the authority to make that change.

This ruling validates what we argued from the beginning: the Kennedy Center belongs to the American people, not to Donald Trump or any president seeking to put their personal brand on a national treasure.

This is an important victory, but the fight isn't over. Congress must act to permanently prevent presidents from using our national institutions, memorials, and landmarks as vehicles for self-promotion.

Today, I was honored to join NPS Park Rangers and community members at Monocacy National Battlefield for a Memorial Day commemoration honoring the brave servicemembers who gave their lives for our freedoms. Together, we reflected on the meaning of this day and observed the National Moment of Silence in remembrance of their sacrifice.

Memorial Day is more than the start of summer — it is a solemn reminder that freedom is not free. I am deeply grateful to the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country, and to the families who continue to carry their memory forward.
