Today marks the solemn 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks.

It gives us an opportunity to mourn the thousands we lost that day, and the thousands more taken by 9/11 related illnesses. It’s a day to remember the heroes who rushed towards the towers in true New York fashion, and the victims’ families, survivors, and neighbors who still suffer from that day.

As we reflect on 9/11’s traumatic impact on the city, let’s also remember the unity and resilience that New Yorkers showed. That was the very best of New York and it shows what we can be.

We must never forget that day, and we must also never forget our potential as a city, a country, and as Americans.

Gutted by the tragic accident on Canal St. where one pedestrian was killed and two more were injured by a truck. My office is in contact with the NYPD as we try to learn more.

Thank you @NYCGothamHealth and @NYCHealthSystem for having me today, as we commemorated the dreadful attack on 9/11 but celebrated the incredible resilience and hard work of the medical community in the 25 years since.

Now that the City has finally relented and released dozens of boxes of documents from the immediate aftermath of the attacks, it is my hope that the expertise of the terrific doctors at Health and Hospitals can use that information to help the tens of thousands suffering from 9/11-related illnesses.

My weekly oversight visit at the 26 Federal Plaza ICE facility was again consistent with its return to its prior use as a processing center with only 3 detainees there.

But we are monitoring troubling rumors that @DHSgov is going to start conducting virtual hearings to potentially get around an order prohibiting courthouse arrests. This would be an outrageous violation of a court order, and I strongly advise DHS to abandon this plan.

Today, I presented @BrooklynDA with a $354,000 check for their Support Outreach and Assistance Response (SOAR) program that provides immediate assistance to victims and their families.

When you or a loved one is the victim of a violent crime, SOAR won't hesitate to help. They’ll connect you with relocation services, trauma care, or victims' rights experts. I'm proud to have secured funding for this program, which will support Brooklyn residents through extraordinarily difficult times.

Honored to join @GovKathyHochul and the @PANYNJ today at the dedication of a powerful new memorial to the Port Authority employees who lost their lives in the World Trade Center attacks of 1993 and 2001.

I’m proud to have joined with my colleagues Rep. Nadler, Speaker Menin, and Councilmember Brewer to pressure City Hall release of these files, and I applaud the Mayor for taking this long-overdue step.

These documents confirm what we’ve known for a long time: the air at Ground Zero was unsafe to breathe, and those in power ignored the danger.

Now the survivors, first responders, and victims’ families can begin to find closure, and hopefully the World Trade Center Health Program — which we were recently able to fully fund — can learn more about what has caused so many 9/11-related illnesses.

This weekend, Jiayi Zheng was killed by a speeding vehicle on 3rd Ave in Sunset Park. My office is aware of an ongoing investigation into this incident, and my thoughts are with the victims family.

Tragedies on this stretch of 3rd Ave are all too common, which is exactly why I have been calling for the @NYC_DOT to redesign this corridor to protect pedestrians and cyclists. The city must act now to prevent further loss of life.

The Trump administration is reportedly moving to strip Doris Miller's name, a Black Pearl Harbor hero, from the aircraft carrier meant to honor him, with word that it could be renamed after the president instead.

This is an insult to veterans who have earned these honors in combat.

The US Navy is working to rename an aircraft carrier under construction that was set to honor a Black sailor hailed for his heroic actions during the attack on Pearl Harbor, and there have been internal conversations about renaming it to honor President Donald Trump, sources say.

This is tragic. TPS terminations force vulnerable people to return to dangerous conditions in their home countries.

It also upends the lives of those who have been residing in the U.S. lawfully, own businesses, and have families.

As the Trump administration takes a sledgehammer to legal immigration, we cannot forget that have an undisputed moral obligation to stand with the people of Ukraine.

Since Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine in 2022, over 280,000 Ukrainians have resettled in the United States, including tens of thousands in New York. However, even as the crisis persists, the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Ukraine is set to expire in October. Letting it lapse would put our Ukrainian neighbors' lives in immediate danger, sending them back into an active war zone.

I am urging @SecMullinDHS to extend TPS for Ukraine immediately.
