Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan

Proud Mom, Democrat, and First Black Congresswoman from Virginia. Representing VA-04 in the U.S. House of Representatives. 🔺

[Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan @RepMcClellan]

To ensure that all citizens can participate in our government by, of and for the people, each generation must fully understand the rich and complex history of its founding.

I joined @RepHaridopolos to introduce a bill to establish National American History and Founders Month and recommit to ensuring the great American experiment endures.

America has a maternal mortality crisis. The health care cuts in the Republicans’ Big Ugly Law are making it worse.

During the @ProtectOurCare “Sick of It” Bus Tour stop in Williamsburg, I explained how.

[Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan @RepMcClellan]

Early detection saves lives.

This #NationalMammographyDay, prioritize your health, schedule your mammogram and stay informed about warning signs of breast cancer.

[New Democrat Coalition (NDC) @NewDemCoalition]

Why does it feel like food recalls have gotten 100x worse over the last year?

(hint: it's because of Trump and RFK Jr.)

@RepMcClellan explains.

[Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan @RepMcClellan]

In Trump’s economy, here are 5 things that aren’t worth the money.

[Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan @RepMcClellan]

Everyone deserves to access quality health care, when they need it, without going bankrupt.

But Trump and Congressional Republicans have worsened the health care crisis facing too many communities by slashing over $1 trillion from Medicaid to bankroll tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations in their Big Ugly Law.

I joined @RepBobbyScott, state officials, patients and advocates for the @ProtectOurCare “Sick of It” Bus Tour stops in Williamsburg and Virginia Beach to call on Congress to reverse the cuts.

Amidst a cost-of-living crisis that forces millions to pay more for groceries, gas, health care, housing and more, nearly half of Virginia households now can’t get enough to eat. Food assistance organizations can’t meet the growing demand.

Meanwhile, the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans cut food assistance to fund tax breaks for billionaires and support a war of choice in Iran and tariff wars that continue to drive up costs.

Another disturbing example of the Trump Administration weaponizing federal agencies to go after his political enemies… three weeks before an election.

You expect this outrageous behavior from fascist dictators. It has no place in American democracy. I stand with @Ilhan.

[Rep. Ilhan Omar @Ilhan]

The Office of Congresswoman Omar released the following statement:

“This raid by Trump’s DHS is an outrageous abuse of power and an unprecedented escalation in the weaponization of federal law enforcement to target political enemies. For a decade, Donald Trump has relentlessly targeted Congresswoman Ilhan Omar with inflammatory rhetoric, repeatedly putting a target on her back. Now, those attacks have escalated to a pointless federal raid. The Congresswoman has done nothing wrong. No president should be able to use the power of the federal government to intimidate his political enemies.”

[Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan @RepMcClellan]

Happy #IndigenousPeoplesDay! Virginia has eleven tribes recognized by the Commonwealth, seven of which are federally recognized.

Each has played a pivotal role in shaping our history for thousands of years. Today, we celebrate their rich histories, cultures and traditions.

[New Democrat Coalition (NDC) @NewDemCoalition]

Another busy week during the district work period, here's what New Dems were up to!

[Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan @RepMcClellan]

Title IX is supposed to protect college students from sexual violence. Yet 1 in 4 undergraduate women experience sexual violence.

By gutting the Office for Civil Rights and rolling back Title IX protections, the Trump Administration’s Department of Education has failed Jane Doe, Kendall Francis and countless other students whose stories are not in the news.

They deserve better.

I joined @DemWomenCaucus to call for an investigation into the Department of Education’s failure to enforce Title IX.

[Democratic Women's Caucus @DemWomenCaucus]

Jane Doe and Kendall Francis are not alone. 1 in 4 women experience sexual violence while in college.

And Trump’s Dept of Ed. is doing nothing to address it. In fact, they have gutted the very Office tasked with enforcing Title IX and formally reinstated regulations that weaken protections for survivors. We are demanding an investigation. Women deserve better.

@RepDexterOR , @RepBonamici , @RepTeresaLF & @RepMarkTakano led more than 90 House Democrats in a letter to the Office of the Inspector General today. We will keep fighting.

[Richmond Airport RIC @Flack4RIC]

RIC welcomed @RepMcClellan this week and appreciates her work for a FY26 Community Project Funding grant to help reconstruct a portion of the apron adjacent to the passenger terminal.

[Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan @RepMcClellan]

I’m back in Henrico County today to announce the final Fiscal Year 2026 Community Project Funding grants!

I delivered $250,000 to @Flack4RIC to replace deteriorating pavement and just over $1 million to @HenricoNews to extend county water services to 143 properties using private well systems at risk of contamination.

Clap if you’re against… the Trump Administration kicking 750,000 Americans off their health insurance.

Advancements in AI and robotics contain great potential for the future of our increasingly digital world, but also pose great risks if left unchecked and unregulated.

I joined @jameshohmann at @PostLive’s AI Edge Summit for a 1-on-1 discussion on why Congress must act to harness the best in these new technologies and place guardrails to avoid potential harms.

[Washington Post Live @PostLive]

At the AI Edge Summit, @RepMcClellan (D-Virginia) shared her perspective on AI security vulnerabilities in the wake of the Hugging Face incident. "If a human being had done what those AI agents had done, it's a felony. But our laws don't account for an AI agent doing it. So, who's responsible?" McClellan told deputy @postopinions editor @jameshohmann.

[Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan @RepMcClellan]

The House is in recess through the November midterms, but I’m still busy at work for Virginia’s Fourth District.

Here’s what I’ve been up to.

America faces a cost-of-living crisis made worse by the actions of the Trump Administration and its Congressional Republican enablers.

I joined @DefendUSAAction, @BarbaraFavola and @NadariusClarkVA to discuss the impact on Virginians and how we are fighting back to make life more affordable.
