Just had someone over who wanted to see what the nineties was all about from a personal computer perspective. This is what I came up with. #nineties#retro#vintage
Why is it that some rechargeable NiCd Battery on old computers leak really heavy, while others don't appear to leak (even after 30+ years). Is it storage ? battery type ? usage ?
Any idea why my system is faster with auto config enabled vs auto config disabled (but using the same settings) ?
Does that auto config setting do some other magic we cannot manually tweak ?
@crchad here are the numbers. In 3dbench / chris3d the auto config enabled is better, as well as a higher TopBench + LanMark Video score. With auto config disabled + tweaked mem timings I get much better memory throughput, but its as if the system doesn't take advantage from it.
@Retrotogs Might need to see if there is an easy way to extract the values from the bios using some kind of tool. Otherwise I might need to dump the entire bios chip and poke around with a hex editor
@jengelenm It is probably setting some values based on the cpu configuration, and not necessarily using the read-only values displayed on the screen. But I haven’t been able to find the combo that matches the auto configuration.
Whenever I need to do a motherboard repair I always end up watching @necro_ware videos :) he has without a doubt the most impressive catalogue of motherboard repair videos. I can totally relate to the fact that every minute of footage corresponds to at least 1 hour of actual work
