Anthony Obodo: Police Can’t Be Trusted to Investigate themselves
The Nigerian authorities must effectively and impartially investigate the extrajudicial execution of Anthony Obodo — who was shot dead by police officers on Friday 29 August 2026, along Agip by Ada-George Road in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The police cannot be trusted to investigate themselves. Therefore, any investigation to be carried out must be independent and could lead to justice.
Family of the victim said, Anthony was driving a Lexus car when he was allegedly chased by police officers and shot at close range. His sister said: after being shot he was breathing when police officers “pulled him out of the vehicle, removed his gold chain and rings, abandoned him on the road in the rain and drove away in his car. According to reports he was found bleeding by the road by a passerby, who rushed him to a hospital. He died shortly after.
The horrifying killing of Anthony Obodo by the police is a sad reminder of consistent targeting of young men, simply for driving a flashy car, using smart phones or having a laptop and other gadgets. Amnesty International had documented cases in which police attribute crimes to young men for just wearing gold chain.
Lack of accountability is breeding and perpetuating impunity, creating an environment where police officers believe they have carte blanche to carry out atrocities.
It is unacceptable that despite many pledges of reform and ending torture and extrajudicial killings, police in Nigeria continue to operate with complete impunity, while fomenting a toxic climate of fear and corruption.

Are young people who grow up in orphanages and care systems protected?
More than 2.7 million children grow up in orphanages and care homes worldwide, and for many, the place meant to protect them becomes a place of harm. (@UNICEF , 2017)
When young people leave care, becoming care leavers, they are often expected to start life without the support or safety they need.
Our Ambassador Ruth Wacuka knows this reality firsthand. A care leaver herself, she founded the Association for Care Leavers Networks in Africa (ACNA) in 2021 to ensure others are not left behind.
ACNA empowers care leavers by:
📖 generating research to influence policy and practice
👫 creating a strong community that amplifies care leaver voices
🧑⚖️ supporting access to justice and safety after care
💪 educating care leavers to lead change in their communities
Because when lived experience leads, systems change.

Dear Heavenly Father, as I stand at the doorway of 2026, I come before You in the name of Jesus Christ. Before this new year fully unfolds, I place my life, my family, my work, and my future into Your hands. Go before me, and destroy every plan of darkness set against my life.
By the authority of Jesus, every curse that tried to follow me from previous years is stopped here. Every negative word, every repeated pattern, every hidden plan meant to delay my progress or steal my peace is cancelled now. What was sent to weaken me will not enter 2026 with me.
Cover my home with Your presence.
Guard my steps with Your wisdom.
Order my days with Your peace.
I declare that 2026 will not be marked by struggle, but by direction; not by heaviness, but by freedom; not by curses, but by the blessing of God.
Lord, I will not keep this prayer to myself. I promise to share this prayer with at least one person today. In the victorious name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Type “God is great” to disappoint the enemy!
“We are going to use whatever resources we have to make sure that we crash the price down. We don’t want to see people, this December and January, selling petrol for more than N740 nationwide. For those who want to keep the price high to sabotage the refinery, we will fight as much as we can to make sure that these prices are down.” — Aliko Dangote
BBC News Pidgin visited some Rivers State schools and expose the poor condition of these schools
Good thing that Gov. Fubara has hinted that education will be his top priority by next year,as 1000 teachers have been recruited and will be posted to these schools

am reaching out on the situation involving the 7 Officers and 4 airmen of the Nigerian Air Force who have been detained alongside their Lockheed C-130 Hercules aircraft since Monday in Barkina Faso
As you may know, the aircraft was on a ferry mission to Portugal when it developed a technical issue shortly after takeoff from Lagos, prompting a precautionary landing in Burkina Faso
Contrary to reports from the government claiming that the crew had been released on Tuesday to continue their journey, the team is still being held by Burkina Faso authorities. This is largely because the federal government has not yet reached out officially to clarify their mission.
The officers and airmen detained have no contact their families or any updates from the NAF and FG.
All that is required at this point is for the Federal Government to formally communicate with the Burkinabe authorities to confirm that the crew was on an authorized mission to Portugal and had no involvement whatsoever in the Benin air operations.
We are seeking suppoet to raise awareness and hold the government accountable so that prompt action is taken.
The earlier reports about their release by NAF is false they are still detained.
I am happy to provide further updates.
