Josh Holland

Husband. Pastor. Father. Son of God - constantly being reminded by my Father that he loves me in spite of my failures. Slowly pursuing grace as I pursue truth.

[Josh Holland @RevJHolland]

@DrJohnFrame What do you consider to be the real theological work?

[Josh Holland @RevJHolland]

@demyronhaynes @bakerbookstore The Ruth resource from Howell is baller! One of a kind

[Josh Holland @RevJHolland]

@demyronhaynes DeMyron,

I just graduated from RTS and am devoting my newfound free time this summer to reading about shepherding. I’m in a context where pastoral visitation is unheard of and would like to hear your thoughts (but I’m not in the PCA). Maybe we could connect over email or phone?

[Josh Holland @RevJHolland]

@AndrewTWalker Yes!

[Josh Holland @RevJHolland]

@Seth_Troutt I’d read it!

[Josh Holland @RevJHolland]

@APShanahan95 @JonMcK1647 This!

[Josh Holland @RevJHolland]

@lukedsimmons Another way to approach this is to explicitly ask, “why does this matter?” during the sermon. Just as a metaphor can make the abstract concrete, asking this question can show how the conceptual is meaningful today

[Josh Holland @RevJHolland]

@lukedsimmons I think the helpful caveat here, is that a metaphor can be one line. People don’t need a story every five minutes, but they may be helped by something like, “just as a grocery bag helps you collect loose items, so also a metaphor does the same.”

[Josh Holland @RevJHolland]

@lukedsimmons I believe Tim Keller modeled this in his book on preaching. He points out that not illustrations are narratives. And a desire for relatability can often cloud biblical exegesis in a series of stories rather than using metaphor to illuminate the Bible

[Josh Holland @RevJHolland]

@tylerwittman I sent you an email!

@lukedsimmons I have often been someone who bristles at leadership terms related to pastoring and church. Given that, the Pastor as Leader by John Currie has been very helpful to change my mind toward seeing biblical foundations of things like leadership, vision, and strategy.

[Josh Holland @RevJHolland]

@AKofiCup I would love it! Solo pastor of a small church in Wausau, Wisconsin

[Josh Holland @RevJHolland]

@NancyRPearcey Would you be able to share how it is academicaly superior? We are thinking of homeschooling but have family who think our child should get "the best education possible". I'd be helped to hear how you see homeschooling as superior. Thanks!
