@jdflynn Let us not forget that Coach Knight was a Buckeye by birth and perfected his chair throwing technique as a member of the 1960 National Championship team. Go Bucks!!
Since the earliest days of the Church, the name of the bishop (and eventually the pope) has been included in the Canon of the Mass to demonstrate communion with that bishop/pope. During the sede vacante, the line about the pope is simply removed.
Note that it's not replaced by "Rome" or "the Vatican" or "the Roman church" or even "the future pope". It's simply removed when there's no pope. Why is that?
Because communion does not occur between abstract concepts or between cities—it occurs between *people*. So as a Catholic I don't have communion with the Archdiocese of Cincinnati or the Diocese of Rome—I have communion with Archbishop Casey and (until his death) Pope Francis.
This reflects the personal nature of our faith. God became man, not a concept. He calls us to communion with Him and with each other, not with ideas or even doctrines.
This is why it's a dreadful thing to claim on your own authority that a man is not the pope and break communion with him. You can't just have communion with an abstract concept of the papacy—you are called by God to have communion with the person of the pope, whoever he may be.
"I am a man. See me as a human being—not a birth defect, not a syndrome. I don’t need to be eradicated."
Frank Stephens pleads for the humanization of people with Down syndrome, studies suggest 67-90% are aborted in the United States due to faulty prenatal screenings.
Ideas have consequences! In 1978, Waylon and Willie advised, “Mamas, don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys.”
Within a generation, Paula Cole was asking, “Where have all the cowboys gone?”

The joys of being a Catholic in 2024!
Allow me to start your day with joy.
We do about 10 hours of confessions a week between my two parishes and there’s never a point where we don’t have people waiting.
It’s so beautiful.
These last few weeks have taken a lot out of me so this morning, we had three priests ready to help to allow me a chance to breathe this morning.
I have a very, very busy day and thought it might be nice to have an hour or two of quiet to prepare myself.
About 20 minutes after confessions started, I got a call that the line was stretched around the church. The three priests were not enough, they needed me to hustle over and help.
I waited for the battle of the flesh: the thing where internally I’m sad that I’m going to lose some rest time.
It never came. I threw my cassock on, like it was battle armor, and charged into the church with joy in my heart.
As I walked into the church, I started crying when I saw all these beautiful people willing to wait two hours or more to have their confession heard.
All four of us priests worked that line with love and mercy and joy and my heart is just so very, very full.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, they will have their fill.
I am the most blessed priest in the world.
I harbor little hope of hearing at the Gates, “Well done good and faithful servant, come to the place prepared for you.” Now, I’d settle for “Oh, it’s you. Hmmm. Well, I guess you didn’t completely blow it, so, okay, come on in. But go sit in the corner and don’t bother anybody.”
@FrHilderbrand @living_lumen @Joeinblack Yes, there must be a father in each family who takes responsibility, but more to your point T, what is one to do when, say, roofing experts disagree with each other as to the best fix or path forward? I have experienced this myself several times. The buck must stop somewhere.
There was a 4 year old boy at Mass today with his grandma. He did all the responses about 2 beats behind everyone else, and I think I laughed every time.
Parents and grandparents, bring your kids to daily Mass. If your priest gets annoyed, DM me and I'll mail him glitter.
