“Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?”
But the weak and tremulous Pilate, friend of Caesar, had no authority over the living human being.
@kinzel_john@knowyourmeme CAD had its fans but it also had detractors who thought it was poor quality. Loss was such an abrupt tonal shift into deeply serious subject matter that it was widely seen as insecure and poorly conceived. It’d be like family guy spending half a season on Meg’s miscarriage.
🚨A U.S. official briefed on the negotiations told me the Trump administration and Iran are close to a deal for ending the war and noted remaining gaps focus on "wording" of several points
@hreczko I’m thinking of how he is portrayed in the gospels. He is often seen as put upon. I see him as indifferent and bored because of what you’re saying.
There is a mistake here. Pilate is in the gospels to show “doing his Roman duty” doesn’t lead to justice. He is indifferent. Even bored. But his indifference is his sin.
Why is it that Pontius Pilate is not more of a villain in Christian history? When reading the New Testament for the first time, I was shocked to see that Pilate is depicted more as doing his Roman duty and not as a satanic force
@hreczko We see this in Luke. He mixes the Galileans blood with their sacrifices. He’s not a good guy. He is characterized by his malign indifference, like Herod and John the Baptist.
Actually, I studied Ancient Greek in undergrad and I can authoritatively prove that her translation of “polytropos” is not only wrong but is in fact the kind of mistranslation you make when your objective is to destroy Western Culture.
@benjamindcrosby My religion department had a thesis defense. One year a student added a German reference so his mentor asked him if he spoke German. He said he did not, so he was told to remove the citation. Come defense time the citation was still there. Prof asked all his questions in German.
@IMAO_ The baffling thing about the Jabba scene is that it only serves to give us exposition we already got in the Greedo scene. But it does a worse job of it.
