Systemic discrimination against Baha'is in #Qatar needs to end. The unjust detention of Remy Rowhani, a highly respected citizen and a member of Qatar’s elected Baha'i governing body, underscores the urgency of addressing these issues. The Baha'i community has been part of Qatari society since long before the establishment of the modern state of Qatar, with documented records dating back to the early 1940s, and they have always been known for their high reputation and valuable contributions to their country. On numerous occasions the #Bahai community has tried to engage the authorities to address the discrimination against them—to no avail. Baha'is in Qatar are denied formal recognition, resulting in significant hardships such as termination from work, denial of legal documents, unjustified expulsion from country, denial of legal certificates and permissions, and unjust restrictions on family reunification. The discrimination risks the community’s total erasure from Qatar. We appeal to the Qatari authorities to ensure Baha'is are no longer blacklisted or unfairly expelled—practices that contradict Qatar’s commitments to diversity and inclusion. The Baha'i International Community has long been keen to engage in a constructive dialogue with the Qatari authorities to address issues and possible misunderstandings so that the discrimination of Baha'is in Qatar comes to an end. #FreeRemyRowhani #QatarBahaiRights
