Today, we celebrate World Wetlands Day! 🌎
Wetlands are vital ecosystems that support biodiversity, improve water quality, and help combat climate change. At Wildwood Trust, we’re committed to conserving and restoring these landscapes through our conservation efforts, and this week we took further steps on our mission with one of the wetland's key species, the beaver 🦫
This week, we hosted a Beaver Rescue & Rehabilitation Workshop at Wildwood, led by the Beaver Trust and attended by British Divers Marine Life Rescue RSPCA Devon Wildlife Trust, veterinary professionals, and our teams from Wildwood Kent & Devon. Together, we explored how to strengthen collaboration, improve rescue responses, and ensure the successful rehabilitation of stranded or injured beavers.
Our work with beavers expanded further in 2024 with the creation of a new beaver rescue facility at Wildwood Devon, where we will replicate the success of our Kent site, focusing on beavers found in and around the South West.
Our commitment to wetland habitat restoration spans over two decades! Since 2002, Wildwood and Kent Wildlife Trust played a crucial role in pioneering beaver reintroductions at Ham Fen, where beavers have transformed the wetland, restoring natural processes, improving biodiversity, and creating habitats for species like water voles, newts, and wetland birds.
This World Wetlands Day, we celebrate the importance of these vital ecosystems and all the species that call it their home.
By working together, we can ensure a future where these ecosystems thrive!
We’re very excited to announce that we’re joining a partnership with @ERWproject, @Durrellwildlife and @GwentWildlife, to explore the possibility of reintroducing white-tailed eagles to Wales and the Severn Estuary. 🦅

Holnicote. National Trust stage zero. Water voles reintroduced now living right the way through this wondrous complexity 1 year on. Predators of all sorts hunting the prey base they represent. Sheep grazing gone and a few cattle allowing the side pastures to abound. Well done NT
Several of my @RewildingB college are at #BlueEarthSummit this week. If you’re there please call in and say hello to them. They’re all very friendly and suitably de-wilded for the occasion.
