@Jake6duz@won_of_1@ItsRaineyDoe The player with the combination of personal numbers and team record has always mattered more to voters than the player overcoming inferior surrounding talent.
@Une4o@chosenone45_@Jimi_Himdrix@PanthersPulze Some of the greats have had their own all-time seasons and were just as deserving but had less fortunate voting polls. I don't think Sherman in 2013, Revis in 2009, or Champ in 2006 were any less valuable despite not winning the award
@Une4o@chosenone45_@Jimi_Himdrix@PanthersPulze I actually agree that Gilmore was dominant and deserved to win the award. The framing of my argument might not have been the best so let me clarify that.
My grievance comes from the claims that he's above the other DBs because of it
@Une4o@chosenone45_@Jimi_Himdrix@PanthersPulze My first reply was a statement about pass rushers historically being favored over DBs which is an objective truth. My followups were explaining the nuances of the exceptions since not every year ends with the same result.
@Une4o@chosenone45_@Jimi_Himdrix@PanthersPulze The awards are narrative-driven far more than they're performance-driven. Garrett breaking the sack record and being the biggest defensive star we had was an easy pick. Chandler was obviously great in 2019 but it wasn't a better story than the headliner of the Pats defense
@chosenone45_@Jimi_Himdrix@PanthersPulze A lot of these DBs were never given a DPOY because voters have always favored the best sack-getters over the best DBs. Gilmore was fortunate to play his best when there were no standouts on the D-line to give the award to over him.
@BlikPart4@Mustafarishot@Spoon4pres He is the least impressive contested catcher, but that doesn't make him inherently worse than the other three. In the same way that Puka having some tight end traits doesn't make him inherently worse either.
@Mustafarishot@Spoon4pres If you're going to argue that Puka is the least "receiver-like", you can also point out that JSN having the lowest contested volume makes him the least prototypical X of the four
