@MattZirwas@DKThomp@Noahpinion Furthering ideas. Testing what we really know. Depending on how these LLMs resolve certain questions avenues of thought and innovation could actually be precluded. I’d encourage you to actually listen to what mathematicians are saying as opposed to shooting from general concepts
@MattZirwas@DKThomp@Noahpinion But that’s not how math research works. It’s not really a question of whether knowing the proof of a hard problem is a benefit to humanity. This is a category error. Why are big conjectures big? They aren’t naturally occurring. They’re big bc they’re testing grounds for further
@JamesWill932@thecoolcuber@peterottsjo Why would a mathematicians ego be hurt by “solving” fusion? Most pure math is done in spite of physical application. Why do you feel the need to talk about the (morality!) of a process/results you nothing of?
@die_rizzen@Linus200712345 I don’t think this is Marx’s point…Rosa Luxembourg’s analysis of Vol 2 seems pretty good, namely that in his theoretical set up capital can just accumulate forever. (If doomed why organize?) the T in TRFP is tendency not law but I get your point
@llallawg@ryan_t_lowe@confusionm8trix Id be interested in learning more about this! from my thin understanding (take Harris’ mathematics without apologies) is that mathematician’s view of their own subject is rarely consulted in re “philosophy of the subject”. O/W Im interested in about social aspects of my area
@alivingmountain @McCarthyist2 I don’t think it’s that unreliable? Wilson in her introduction mentions the stability as compared to other Grecian myths
@FulfillVatican2 @caitoz No. The Germans only became “self loathing” (extremely doubt it being genuine) because the Soviets made them never forget. Just look at how America handled Japan with kid gloves. Do they seem very remorseful of their atrocities?
@splitmaude@contentlyshane And will then fight to prevent pigeon ford from unionizing. You’re contributing to the very thing your criticizing: the idolization of a rich person who’s material interests are categorically orthogonal to that of the working class
@zulways Also this is basically the rate I have for on student loans (like 12-15%) from government institutions so I’m also saddled with the “exact” situation they had on top of everything else
@amaldorai@CSandbatch Yeah but only number theorists would probably have read Wiles proof of the modularity theorem. So your analogy supports English BA potentially not reading Dostoyevsky
