As part of the State Visit, H.E. President William Ruto and H.E. Cyril Ramaphosa participated in the Kenya–South Africa Business Forum, which brought together business leaders, investors and policymakers from both countries.

The Forum served as a platform to strengthen trade and investment ties, expand market access and explore new avenues for economic cooperation.

The two leaders underscored the strategic importance of deepening economic relations between Kenya and South Africa, noting that, as two of Africa’s leading economies, enhanced collaboration would unlock greater opportunities for growth, innovation, industrialisation and shared prosperity across the continent.

H.E. Dr. William Ruto, PhD., CGH., President of the Republic of Kenya, commenced his State Visit to the Republic of South Africa with bilateral talks with H.E. Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa.

The two Heads of State held substantive discussions aimed at elevating Kenya–South Africa relations to a Strategic Partnership, reaffirming their shared commitment to deepening cooperation in areas of mutual interest and advancing the common aspirations of the two nations.

On the sidelines of the bilateral meeting, Kenya and South Africa signed six Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in various fields including Trade Facilitation, Technical and Vocational Training; Shipping and Maritime Cooperation, Arts, Culture and Heritage, ⁠Sports and Recreation, and Gender Equality and Women Empowerment

The State Department for Trade, together with representatives from government institutions and private sector stakeholders, convened a consultative meeting to review the implementation progress of resolutions made during the 5th Presidential Roundtable (PRT) as preparations commence for the 6th PRT. The engagement focused on assessing milestones achieved, identifying existing gaps, and enhancing coordination among stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of agreed resolutions.

PRT is a high-level engagement platform that brings together H.E. the President, representing the Government, and private sector leaders under the umbrella of the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) to deliberate on key economic and business environment priorities. The forum provides an avenue for constructive public-private sector engagement aimed at strengthening trade facilitation, promoting investment, improving the ease of doing business, and fostering sustainable economic growth.

The consultative discussions laid the foundation for the upcoming 6th PRT, which is expected to focus on practical and results-oriented interventions to strengthen Kenya’s economic competitiveness, foster a conducive business environment, and support the country’s broader development agenda.

The Foreign Service Academy has launched a two-week pre-departure training programme for newly posted Trade, Immigration and Education Attachés to prepare them for overseas assignments.

The training is designed to equip participants with practical knowledge, policy insights and diplomatic skills necessary to effectively advance Kenya’s national interests in their respective areas of deployment.

The programme features expert-led sessions, interactive discussions and briefings on international best practices, underscoring the Academy’s commitment to strengthening professional capacity within the Foreign Service.

While opening the programme, the Acting Director General of the Foreign Service Academy, Ambassador Patrick Wamoto, emphasized the importance of pre-departure training in ensuring officers are adequately prepared for their assignments abroad. He encouraged the attachés to fully utilize the programme to sharpen their skills and enhance service delivery to Kenyans overseas.

Our President presided over the launch of the NYOTA Business Start-Up Capital disbursement for young entrepreneurs from Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi counties at Kinoru Stadium in Meru Town.

The initiative will benefit 6,720 young entrepreneurs from the three counties, with a total of KSh 168,000,000 disbursed to support the establishment and growth of their businesses.

Nationally, a total of 121,800 youth are set to receive start-up capital of KSh 50,000 each, with the first phase of the program scheduled for completion by 3rd February 2026.

In addition to the financial support, all beneficiaries will receive structured business mentorship following the disbursement. This will help young entrepreneurs establish sustainable enterprises and integrate into the local business ecosystem.
