Lots to be positive about this week. Vaccinations being distributed to Boston communities. Very grateful to take part of the vaccination efforts @The_BMC. Worked the Roslindale clinic on Thursday. Met so many excited people. Big smiles coming through the masks after the shot!
@JBerz_MD Jonathan this is an interesting question with no right answer. Yes avoiding acetaminophen and nsaids better for immune response but people are afraid of fevers and feeling ill. This contributes to vaccine hesitancy. Better to minimize symptoms and have people return for 2nd dose
We already had a public health crisis before COVID: the opioid epidemic. Overdoses have spiked during the pandemic, especially among Black and Latino Americans. Congress must pass the bill I wrote with the late @RepCummings to help state and local communities tackle this crisis.
The bottom line is COVID-19 kills both young and old. Another example of how devastating this virus has been for Black and Latinx communities even within the younger population. Vaccines are here but we must continue to wear masks and physically distance.
The largest burden of COVID-19 deaths has fallen on people over 65, but young people are also dying at historic rates. There's been ~12,000 more deaths than expected among young adults.
So wear a mask, be safe. Do your part as the vaccine is distributed. https://t.co/mq2uCNmKXk
We must not forget the research participants who volunteered their bodies for science in these vaccine trials. Without them we would not be here today! New York health care worker among first to get Covid-19 vaccine

@jabarocas @nytimes Absolutely despicable! They helped “turbocharge” OxyContin sales and ultimately the opioid epidemic. How can you put a “rebate” on someone’s life. Horrible.
Today, we say to the prison industrial complex: Yes. We're going to enact real criminal justice reform. And we start by ending private prisons and private detention centers. No more profiteering from locking people up.
@assoumou_MD@IDSAFoundation@The_BMC Agree. We are behind in addressing vaccine hesitancy especially in communities of color whom are being ravaged by COVID and less likely to receive vaccines due to mistrust. Hoping these vaccine studies have appropriate representation of racial and ethnic minorities.
This is leadership. Every state should follow New Jersey's example & move with urgency to save lives. This is why myself @RashidaTlaib @BLeeForCongress introd the Dismantle Mass Incarceration for Public Health Act. Cc @ACLU_Mass@PLSMA#mapoli
So much time and precious resources wasted. DOC should be focused on expanding access to treatment for SUD. Or better yet let’s stop putting people in jail for drug use and get them treatment.
More than a dozen Massachusetts attorneys claim they have been falsely accused by state prison staff of sending drugs to their incarcerated clients. https://t.co/1ANQBmcOja
Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Do not become bitter or hostile. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble. We will find a way to make a way out of no way. #goodtrouble
Roger Stone. Found guilty by a jury on 7 federal criminal counts. No jail time.
Kalief Browder. Accused of stealing a backpack. Couldn’t post bail. Spent 3 years at Riker’s awaiting trial. Ultimately committed suicide after released.
We have two justice systems in our country.
Latest from CDC: If you die from #COVID19 and are under the age of 65 you are almost 3X more likely to be Hispanic/LatinX and 2-3X more likely to be "nonwhite non-Hispanic"

Florida reported 15,299 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, marking the largest single-day increase of any state since the pandemic began.
Gov. Ron DeSantis has yet to impose a statewide mask mandate.
