First Edition, First Printing of Darwin’s Descent of Man. This copy is 1 of 2500 copies printed in Feb 1871. Descent sold out in 3 days, prompting John Murray to inform Darwin that ‘The first Edition of your Book is exhausted’ and a second printing is needed. #Darwin#HistSci
One of the most wonderful books on the history of science that I've ever read. It tells a story of four friends - Babbage, Whewell, Jones and Herschel - who were deeply influenced by Francis Bacon and who changed the way science looks like.
