🚨ALERT: The editors of the journal Men and Masculinities will no longer allow authors to refer to individuals as being "male."

If an author uses the term, they should "specify which dimension(s) of sex are at issue, since sex itself refers to several only loosely correlated dimensions rather than a single underlying fact."

For example, trans-identifying male swimmer Lia Thomas must be referred to as a woman, and his maleness, if mentioned at all, must be attached to specific traits, like genitals, hormones, and chromosomes.

You cannot call Lia Thomas a "male" in this journal, but a woman with "male genitals" and "male sex chromosomes."

The first author of this editorial—the Managing Editor of Men and Masculinities, Tristen Kade—is a woman who identifies as a man.

The model of biological sex this editorial is pushing is what I refer to in my scholarly article "Why There Are Exactly Two Sexes" as the "multi-level" sex model. This model is not merely wrong—it is self-refuting.

Her remains were discovered inside a royal tomb at Mycenae, and today, through a modern digital reconstruction led by Emily Hauser, we can finally look directly into the face of a real Mycenaean woman.

What makes this reconstruction so striking is not beauty alone, but familiarity. This is not an idealized marble statue or a fantasy character from Hollywood. It is the face of a real Bronze Age Greek woman reconstructed through skull scans, anthropology, and advanced digital imaging. Her expression feels alive, human, and almost modern, collapsing thousands of years of history into a single glance.

The discovery reminds us that Mycenaean Greece was not merely myth or poetry. Behind the Homeric epics stood real people of flesh and blood who laughed, ruled, feared, loved, and fought. Archaeology, frescoes, DNA studies, and modern facial reconstructions continue to confirm the distinct identity of the Mycenaean Greeks as a people of the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean world.

It also raises an important cultural question. Greek mythology and history are increasingly reshaped by modern entertainment industries that often place marketing and political trends above historical authenticity. Helen of Troy and the heroes of the Trojan War are not blank canvases for commercial reinvention detached from their cultural origins. Creative freedom is one thing; presenting distortion as historical reality is another.
