In December 2001, just three months after the September 11 attacks, Elton John appeared on “Live by Request,” an A&E special where viewers called in live to request songs. Among the callers, a woman shared that her husband had been one of the first responders to die at the World Trade Center, and that “Rocket Man” was his favorite song.
Elton, visibly moved by the request, sat down at the piano and began playing that 1972 classic that everyone had heard a thousand times before. But that night, in that context, the lyrics about loneliness and distance took on a completely different weight.
Sweating and with his voice breaking on every note, he managed to completely silence the audience for the four minutes the song lasted.
🇺🇸 September 14, 2001. Ground Zero.
President Bush climbed onto a wrecked fire truck with a retired FDNY man named Bob Beckwith and a bullhorn.
A worker in the pile yelled that he could not hear him.
Bush: “I can hear you! I can hear you! The rest of the world hears you! And the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon!”
Video from National Archives
This eighty seconds from Jon Karl was very, very strong on undermining faith in free and fair elections. By being so very clear, it allowed the audience and program to move past the ridiculous Trump falsehoods and focus on other important news including developments in Iran.
There's something so poetic about these images...
Careers done. Legacies etched in stone. Ghosts forever haunting the deserted kingdoms they once ruled.
Time stops for no mortal.

Q: "What does holding this trophy mean to you?"
JB: "It was a full team effort. I share this with my brothers and my partner in crime, Jayson Tatum. He was with me the whole way. We share this together."
Just in: The Detroit Pistons are trading C/F Isaiah Stewart to the Memphis Grizzlies for three future second-round picks, sources tell ESPN. Pistons clear Stewart's salary and pick up assets while Grizzlies acquire a 25-year-old as a rugged frontcourt piece.
Congratulations to the National Champions @MTEliteDucks ! They played with passion this weekend and they were able to walk out with the trophy! Well done! #ZGFinals
@TeamYouTube hello. I’m hoping to speak to someone about my son’s channel @JMG-V2r_2.0 being removed. This is a basketball channel where friends play mini-hoop. A disclaimer was on the channel and placed on every video. These are close friends and are very upset about the removal
