Something happening more often... Someone posts a truly impressive lift/run/bike/erg and has a "did this feeling kinda crappy wasn't even meaning to do it just wanted to give it a go after maxing yesterday but I'll be more fresh next time oh my head hurt too" as the caption๐
@champwebdotnet Something that would really help here is 3 sector timing lines like the F1 broadcast. Imagine watching Verstappens Monaco qual comeback in 2023 without knowing his 1st sector. We know many future races this year will have pole within a tenth.. build the drama up during the lap!
@CatholicRunners@BiggestComeback So "doing a couple of sets of pullups a day" for a guy that struggles to get one isn't a viable program. Also, I think you underestimate how tough it is and how long it takes a person to go from 5-6 great reps to 14. It takes more than just a couple of sets a day.
@CatholicRunners@BiggestComeback I think the average male in this context who regularly does strength training can get 1-2 excellent form pullups.
Meaning a no-regular-strength training guy in this demographic will get 0. I've seen state level HS runners and sub 2 hr half older runners unable to get 1.
@CatholicRunners@BiggestComeback So now a question.. How many pullups (elbows fully straight at the bottom of every rep) do you think the average 50-54 year old can do that goes to the gym to strength train with the same frequency of said runner?
@CatholicRunners@BiggestComeback Yes. The AVERAGE 50-54 man who has gotten in shape to run can do right around a 2hr half. Not sure how this takes away from my point... This is a very reasonable and attainable marker for someone who would take up running.
@BiggestComeback I do enjoy these hypotheticals. Fun way to share experience from the trenches. How many pullups are you currently at and have you attempted a half marathon yet?
@BiggestComeback Show me a video of a 50-54 year old man that can do 14 pullups with excellent form and "not a runner" and I can get that 50 year old man to run a sub 2 exponentially faster than a man that runs a 1:59 half and doesn't do strength work trying to train 14 pullups.
@BiggestComeback From what I've seen this isn't close. The average 50 year old male can knock out a 1:59 half with much more ease- simply not a tough benchmark. 14 pullups with your elbows fully extended at the bottom of every rep is an elite feat for that age group.
Lowering your heavy deadlifts to the ground under control (especially singles and doubles) with a mindful hip hinge might be the most underrated detail to improving your deadlift. So many wasted reps if you drop the bar 100% of the time when it gets heavy.
