@_madalynharris @ProfessorStacie I am the same way! I knew about some of the exceptionalities, but through this class, I learned about others that I had no clue existed. I also think that there are still other exceptionalities out there that we still don't even know about.
@CookeMakenzie@ProfessorStacie I agree that it is great that we got to learn just how important it is to stay connected and stay in good communication with the families for the benefit of the student.
@ProfessorStacie Before this class began, I had no idea that there were different transition programs for individuals with exceptionalities. I also did not know that there are multiple accommodations, such as employment opportunities, that they can receive to help them live their best lives.
@MoodyCassianna @ProfessorStacie I agree that early intervention allows the students to be able to receive the same education as their peers, but also allows them not to have to feel like they are falling behind in their education.
@Savanna82281536@ProfessorStacie I completely agree that it is fascinating to learn how life-changing intervention can be, not only for the student but for the parents as well. I also agree that early intervention can give these students the tools that they can use throughout their life to be successful.
@ProfessorStacie It is important to start intervention early because it will allow the teachers and parents to notice the different signs the student is exhibiting, and accommodations can be given as soon as possible. I did not know about the different kinds of assistive technology that is used.
@CookeMakenzie@ProfessorStacie I completely agree! I think it is important that we make individuals with exceptionalities feel like they are included and like they are apart of something without taking away their independence in the process.
@Ssturgill_2021@ProfessorStacie I completely agree! I think these types of programs are a great way for everyone to be able to learn from each other and use what they learned out in the community.
@ProfessorStacie These types of programs are so important because they allow individuals of all ages to be able to learn and adapt new techniques that will aid them in being their most successful selves out in the community no matter their exceptionality.
@Tashate48809535@ProfessorStacie I completely agree! Not only is simple the best for students with exceptionalities, but in the end, it benefits other students as well.
@tiffneymcc24@ProfessorStacie I love the idea of a "cool down" corner for students who deal with overstimulation. This way students can take as much time as they need, away from others, to be able to calm down and eventually return to the activities with other students without too much pressure on them.
@ProfessorStacie When creating designs and activities for your classroom you need to make sure you keep it simple. You don't want anything that will cause the students to become distracted, upset, or angry. It also is great to implement some kind of reward system to keep these students focused.
@gabby_hedgecoth@ProfessorStacie I completely agree, our main priority needs to be finding out who is going to give these students not only the most support but the best support that they can possibly get.
@_madalynharris @ProfessorStacie I completely agree, if we aren't all on the same page then it's going to affect the students negatively rather than positively.
@ProfessorStacie It is important that we know how these three systems work together so that we can make sure that all students with exceptionalities are getting the best possible education they can. The more you know about what they are doing for your students, the bigger advocate you can be.
