I’m done my first semester of grad school!! Really grateful to have become such good friends with my cohort, only ever seeing each other has been quite a bonding experience lol. This semester would have so much harder without Matt and Emily (yes we have matching pajamas)
Our new paper is out! We find that three common advocacy tactics do not work or can even back fire when attempting to grab the attention of policymakers to engage with climate science. See full paper here! https://t.co/WhbpANajcE
I’ll often have people tell me, “I'm really not that into politics.”
Well too damn bad – politics is into you!
Get engaged, get registered, and go vote. For the next 45 days, let’s give this all we’ve got.
“Because it feels fun” is not an alternative to an evolutionary explanation!
Sex can feel fun.
Making friends can feel fun.
Winning status can feel fun.
Better question: Why do some activities feel fun (or generate behavior consistent w those feelings)?

HBES mourns the death of one of its founders, John Tooby (1952-2023), on Fri Nov 10th. John was co-director of the UCSB Center for Evolutionary Psychology with Leda Cosmides, and was HBES President (1999-2001). He had an enormous impact on the field & will be sorely missed.
Hey everyone! I’m working on an updated measure of moral values (purity specifically) for a testing and measurement course. If you’re 18 or older and live in the US please help me out! https://t.co/yTXcGQI4Ch
Evolution doesn’t act on our psychology such that we “want to procreate”.
If it did men would be queuing up at sperm banks. It created desires for acts that throughout our evolutionary history led to survival/offspring, i.e., sex.
Many features of the modern mating market are mismatched e.g., the pill. Also, status striving incentive structures.
after an active shooter in the hotel next to my apartment on monday, there is now another shelter in place for a report of an active shooter at the boulder high school. i am often devastated by this country. implementing gun laws cannot be an argument anymore. people are dying.

Colorado makes voting extremely easy and extremely secure. When you register you are automatically sent a ballot several weeks before Election Day which you can drop off which you can drop off at numerous locations to be immediately counted, or that you can mail for free 1/2
if you are unable to get transportation to a drop off location. The ballots can be dropped off up until polls close. I moved and forgot to update my registration address, changed it less than a week before the election and still received my ballot several days before the election
