On Dec. 17, at the direction of @SecWar Pete Hegseth, Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by a Designated Terrorist Organizations in international waters. Intelligence confirmed that the vessel was transiting along a known narco-trafficking route in the Eastern Pacific and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations. A total of four male narco-terrorists were killed, and no U.S. military forces were harmed. #OpSouthernSpear

On December 11, the U.S. Embassy in Port of Spain, in collaboration with United States Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM), donated educational equipment and supplies valued at US$25,000 to Waterloo Secondary School. This initiative is part of USSOUTHCOM’s ongoing Humanitarian Assistance Program, which seeks to strengthen learning environments and advance digital literacy among students.

The donation includes 10 desktop computers, 10 desks, 10 chairs, 10 UPS, a printer, 10 whiteboards, a refrigerator, microwave, stationery, and supplies. The Humanitarian Assistance Program supports learning environments, promotes digital literacy, and enhances opportunities for students.

This week, Trinidad (and to a lesser extent Tobago) is set to see some impactful rainfall - particularly after last week’s rains which saturated soils across both islands.

The causes - a low-level trough on Tuesday, interacting with the ITCZ, and a tropical wave on Wednesday/Thursday, with strong low-level winds.

How much rain? Over the next five days, most areas will see between 25 and 75 mm - but some of the top global models show more than double that - between 75 and 150 mm. Locally higher totals are possible across eastern and southern halves of Trinidad, as well as western coastal Trinidad where afternoon thunderstorms pop up. We’ll have better clarify on more detail tomorrow, but the heaviest rainfall is forecast to occur between Tuesday and Thursday. As a result, all types of flooding are on the table - whether an alert is formally issued by the authorities or not.

I also mentioned gusty winds, as low-level winds increase on Wednesday and Thursday accompanied by the tropical wave - so watch out for wind gusts between 50-65 KM/H on both days, mainly in heavy showers & thunderstorms.

With soils being relatively saturated already, the risk of landslides in elevated areas, as well as trees falling in gusty winds will increase through the week.

If you live in a flood prone area, particularly with the threat of heavy overnight rainfall, be prepared to act quickly if flooding materializes - with or without an official alert/watch/warning in place - think back to the South floods last week where 50-100 mm of rain fell within 6 hours, leaving parts of Moruga, Barrckpore, Penal, Siparia and Debe under water for ~2 days.

Lastly, last week, a number of vehicles took a chance through flood waters, leading to many stalling (thankfully high water rescues weren’t needed) or vehicles getting damaged. Let’s not have a repeat this week.

18-24 inches can carry away most large SUVs, vans and even trucks. #TurnAroundDontDrown.

4:50 AM - The first of a series of low-level troughs is approaching Trinidad and Tobago this morning, with scattered light to moderate rain and isolated heavy pockets east of Trinidad and south of Tobago.

As the morning progresses, this activity is forecast to affect both islands. The main hazards will be locally heavy rainfall producing street/flash flooding and accompanied by gusty winds up to 55 KM/H. Heavier rainfall is forecast to affect the eastern areas of both islands.
