India is producing world champions, but are we making it harder for the next generation to even compete?

The 2026 National Championship is now scheduled for March 2027, meaning there will effectively be no National Championship in 2026. Even more concerning, it's being held during the peak board exam season, forcing thousands of young players to choose between academics and the country's most prestigious domestic chess event.

On top of that, hosting the tournament in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities makes travel longer, costlier, and less accessible for players from across the country.

If India truly wants to remain a global chess powerhouse, shouldn't we be making the National Championship more accessible instead of creating more barriers? Is this really how we're supposed to grow the game?

We urge @aicfchess to reconsider the scheduling and planning in the best interests of India's young chess players.
