here i am with another indie game demo review and today i played ''Farm & Feast''
i want to give you a quick idea of what the game is about but honestly even the video i made from the demo doesnt show everything the game has to offer, at first i looked at the cute warm toon art style nice relaxing shaders calm music and thought yeah this is gonna be a chill little restaurant game. day one im just running my tiny restaurant taking some orders, by day four oh my god im the waiter i need to take the right orders bring them to the right tables seat people at their tables the storage is empty so i need to order more supplies or become a farmer and plant and harvest crops and somehow i need to do all of this at the same time during the day
huh!
this game gives you A LOT to do, i really love the art style its actually the kind of art style i enjoy modeling myself and there are so many different tasks and mechanics, i liked it but my old body cant handle this much stress lol
i honestly expected a more chill experience but thats just my personal experience and if youre someone who wants a game with a lot of things to do this could be a great one for you
now for the things i had some problems with
- while doing quests i expected a few more arrows highlights or something to guide me
when the game told me to collect mushrooms or plant crops i found myself walking around thinking where are the mushrooms where am i supposed to plant this
- i also got a little confused during the tutorial where you bring drinks to the table. the tray showed a capacity of 3 so i thought i was supposed to take 3 drinks. when i had extra drinks on the tray i didnt know where to put them back and at first i even thought maybe i had to throw them in a trash can, later i realized i could just put them back in the fridge, maybe this was just me but im pretty sure some other players could get confused by this too
i think things like this can be easy to miss during development because when youre making the game you already know how everything works, theres something similar we talk about in art education. if youre trying to teach someone how to draw or play guitar and youre having a hard time understanding why theyre struggling try doing it with your weaker hand, if youre right handed try doing it with your left hand
it reminds you what it feels like to learn something from zero again, i think tutorials and player guidance could be looked at in a similar way
other than that i didnt really have any negative experiences with the game and considering how much content they already managed to fit into just the demo i think theyve done a really good job with this project
definitely give the demo a try. Thanks <3 @zbeedev
After one month working on a technical prototype of Gecko. I modeled and replaced the block shape with a simple Gecko. Also attached camera with gecko so, moving four leg manually not confused on screen🦎

yeah, continuing with my second review today. the demo i tried this time is "Time to Pay the Bills"
the simple art style and the color choices really caught my attention and made me want to give it a try. the idea is pretty simple, you use marbles with different abilities to hit the buttons on the table, stack up money and multipliers and try to reach the amount the game asks you for each round
the gameplay is fun and i like the idea, but again there are a few things that i personally think could be improved, so i wanted to share them with you and the developer
- the Steam description says roguelike but roguelite is one of the first tags. right now it feels more like a roguelike to me, but i think permanent upgrades would make the game way more fun. maybe upgrades for the marbles, the table or idk even a shop where we could unlock or buy new marbles. i would definitely love to have something new to look forward to on my next run.
- this one might just be personal preference and maybe im completely wrong here because the whole art style is supposed to be very simple, but as the multipliers and the amount of money go up i feel like the game needs a little more to keep my eyes on the screen. some colorful flashes, maybe some satisfying sfx when you hit a huge multiplier, stuff like that. i actually got a pretty big multiplier at one point but only really noticed how big it was when i looked at the calculator at the end. other than the camera shake i feel like those big moments need a little more feedback, but again im not completely sure because i also get that the simple style is part of the game :/
other than that i didnt really have any negative experiences with it. its a nice relaxing game to play when you just want to chill after a long day and i think its definitely worth giving the demo a try. Thanks @redbeansgames #indiegame #gamedev
For the first post in my indie game review series i tried the endless rails demo
had a really good time with it and i liked that theyre trying something different with the genre, its a rogue-like where you fight through waves while upgrading your train and the drones
i dont think theres much point in only talking about the good parts of a game. pointing out the things that could be improved feels more useful to me and thats what i plan to do with every indie game i try in this series
- first of all, resetting the wagon count at the start of every run makes the game feel more repetitive than random, theres no luck involved in the wagon count so why do i have to max it out every run?
- when the colors of the map change i also feel like the enemies should change color with it. i had some trouble focusing on them at times.
- i can also say that i almost never used the dash ability on the drone, maybe instead of giving abilities to the drone there could be abilities for the train like a speed boost or invincibility that lasts for a short time. and maybe this could also lead to different trains with different abilities or features, of course its your game and these are only my personal thoughts :)
-and lastly controlling the train forward and backward didnt really help me avoid the enemies, maybe i just couldnt use it well but in its current state it felt like you either need to be strong enough to kill the enemies or just watch yourself die.
other than these points i really enjoyed the game
im talking about the demo version so maybe some of these things have already been changed. either way i think the project has a lot of potential and great work so far <3 @StudioMonoblok #indiegame #gamedev
