The DMK could have split with the Congress and worked with the BJP like it did during Vajpayee's time. It chose not to. If the Congress now does not stand by the DMK, it will not be trusted in alliances in 2029. If it had to break away, it should have been before the elections. Now is not the time.

Vijay's becoming CM is certain. The Congress need not oppose the mandate of the people and allow a minority government to be sworn in and run. A new untested party, without a legislative majority, would be compelled to maintain continuity that is essential for TN and the country's continued growth. If the new party falters, then the legislative party can alter strategy. Right now, clutching on to the tail of a winning horse, is bad optics and bad tactics.
