“We don’t have a knowledge gap, we have an implementation gap,” noted @LotteBrondum, Executive Director of @RoadSafetyNGOs, during the preparatory hearing for the UN High-Level meeting on Improving Global #RoadSafety that will bring global leaders in July: https://t.co/BydxWJRvLT
If helmets are the vaccine, why are unsafe ones still being sold?
At #WHA79, Alliance's message: people are trying to do the right thing, but systems are still failing them:
Unsafe helmets off the market
Safety shouldn’t depend on income
Safe helmets are a public health priority
Today in Geneva, I opened our High-Level Panel "Helmets as a Vaccine" 🪖, hosted by Amb. @LuigiVignali at the Permanent Mission of Italy 🇮🇹, with @DrTedros .
Safe, affordable helmets are a public health intervention on par with immunisation 💉. Yet millions still ride without one due to cost and availability.
We discussed real solutions: tackling affordability, closing regulatory gaps, and protecting child passengers on two-wheelers 🛵. #RoadSafety #HelmetsAsAVaccine
Privileged to join UN hearing on road safety hosted today by General Assemby President @UN_PGA Annalena Baerbock. Good discussion on how to accelerate progress in Decade of Action goal to halve 1.2 million annual road fatalities which remain a global concern for many countries.

Today we brought together Alliance NGOs across Africa to discuss what the ratification of the African Road Safety Charter means in practice.
Ratification is only the beginning. The real work now lies in how the Charter is implemented at national and local levels.
Dear Alliance members in Africa,
We invite you to an online capacity building and information session on the #AfricanRoadSafetyCharter to mark a historic milestone, the ratification of the Charter by 15 AU Member States.

Transforming Roads for the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport
Roads are the arteries of global mobility, connecting people, goods and opportunities. How road systems are planned, built and managed will determine whether the UN Decade achieves its goals.
Today, IRF is pleased to announce a commitment with @Arup, @ntroausnz, @RoadSafetyNGOs, @FIDIC, @iRAPSavingLives, ORIS Materials Intelligence and @WWF to advance:
🔹 Inclusive roads that improve safe rural access, connect isolated communities to essential services and rebalance urban space to prioritise active and collective mobility.
🔹 Safe roads that are aligned with the targets of the UN Decade of Action on Road Safety, embedding evidence-based safety principles and interventions into planning, design, construction, maintenance and operation.
🔹 Green roads that advance decarbonisation and resilience, enabling low-emission vehicles and fuels, using sustainable materials, applying whole-life carbon management frameworks and biodiversity-sensitive planning using nature-based solutions.
🔹 Efficient and smart roads that maximise value, safety and performance through digitalisation, automation and intelligent operations, supported by procurement and contractual frameworks that enable data-driven maintenance, logistics and traffic flow.
