Only Dunk, Steele & Gross still at the club from the starting 11 v Roma in 4-0 loss in 🇮🇹 in 2024. New look #bhafc expected today & chance to see some summer signings.
Pascal Groß speaking on his role at the club ahead of the new season! 🗣️💙🤍
“We have lost some big characters and great teammates in the dressing room, as well as great footballers a lot of characters that have helped Brighton to be where they are now,”
“Mine is a big role. I lead the team with guys like Lewis Dunk and Jason Steele. We need to make the team tick on and off the pitch, to perform. We need to support them and also to show what it takes to win in the Premier League.”

Players taking action. FIFPRO, the union which represents 70,000 professional players worldwide, has today written to FIFA demanding change. It wants involvement in the FIFA review into Gianni Infantino’s dangerous plan to sell off parts of the World Cup “and structural safeguards to ensure these events can never be repeated…" FIFPRO alleges “profound abuse of presidential power”. FIFPRO demands include…
“Governance and structural reforms that make it impossible for any individual, ever again, to drive unilateral decisions through the game.
“Legally binding engagement with professional football's stakeholders on decisions of major consequence, including the international match calendar, competition expansion and other matters that fundamentally affect the professional game.
“Voting rights for professional football's stakeholders on the FIFA Council, together with a clear and formally recognised role for FIFPRO as the global representative of professional footballers."
Letter to FIFA signed by presidents of all FIFPRO regions in Africa, Asia/Oceania, Europe, South America and Central & North America.
@Brightonian_ The only thing I would counter with this (and time will tell) is if there’s a major signing in the works, if there’s major progress with Ferguson’s fitness and of course the confidence they have in Babis stepping up. Bloom and Barber are nobody’s fool.
The thing that’s interesting here, is that the mantra, is not, as has been said on here last few days:
“We won’t stand in anyone’s way”
Which I’d agree is way too one sided for the player vs our interests. But the mantra we’ve been told for years, and that I’ve personally backed btw is:
“We won’t stand in anyone’s way, so long as the timing and the finances are right for the club”.
I’m pretty certain I could dig up Paul Barber quotes nearly saying that word for word. And honestly, I do defend that stance. See Caicedo, Baleba. We will give you your move, but the timing and the finances have to suit Brighton and Hove Albion.
And here’s the disconnect,
This Welbeck deal, whilst I completely understand is fantastic for the player and agent (ie more 💰) is NOT the right timing for the club at all.
🗣️ Pascal Groß believes Brighton has a BIG challenge ahead replacing all the leadership experience lost.
Reflecting on the departures, he said:
“When you see Solly, Joel, Webby, Milly, Welbz, JP, Crofty on the staff, it’s a lot of characters. They basically helped Brighton be where they are now.”
He acknowledged Danny Welbeck’s importance, adding:
“Welbz was the top scorer in the last two years, so we also lose some goals.”
Groß stressed that replacing those departures has to be a collective effort:
“We are only able to save that as a team. We have players and they need to step up.”
He believes Brighton’s young squad has the talent but now needs to prove it:
“We have a lot of young players. They have already shown they are capable of really good things. Now, with more game time, they need to step up and help us.”

Exceptionally strong stance and statement by UEFA in opposition to Gianni Infantino’s proposal.
Calling out that “it is not a ‘democratic decision’, but governance by intimidation - an act of coercion” and would mean “every decision shaping the future of football is no longer driven by what best serves the game, but by what best serves shareholders.”
Wrapped up beautifully by this mic drop:
“UEFA national teams will not participate in any FIFA competition for so long as these proposals remain alive, unless this proposal has been abandoned in its entirety and binding assurances have been given that FIFA will never again open its governance or competitions to private ownership.
“Nobody should be in any doubt: UEFA and its national associations will oppose these plans with absolute determination.
“There are moments when institutions are judged not by what they are prepared to accept, but by what they refuse to compromise. This is one of those moments.
Some things are simply too important to sell. The FIFA World Cup belongs to football. It always will.”
The Infantino plan is not a proposal.
It’s robbery of the game’s Crown Jewels.
Under duress, arbitrary time pressure, and without full knowledge of the game’s representatives.
It should be the end of his Presidency, and the trigger for reform. https://t.co/tQeoDHTcAx
Franco Baresi has passed away at the age of 66.
The Italian played 719 matches for AC Milan, winning six Serie A titles and three European Cups/Champions Leagues, while earning 81 caps for the national team and winning the 1982 World Cup.
“…VAR must only intervene in situations of ‘clear and obvious’ error, i.e. when a referee decision is blatantly incorrect or when the referee has missed a clear incident.” Amen to that. An important missive from UEFA emphasising how all 55 European national associations, including the FA, must interpret and implement VAR. More consistency and “clear and obvious" only. This should be the mantra for all officials during games.
“VAR is not meant to re-referee the game, it is an essential support to the referees, who must remain at the centre of all decision-making. Lengthy, microscoping reviews are often a symptom revealing that the decision on the field was not clearly and obviously incorrect, and should therefore be limited.”
Outstanding 👏🏻
Calm, speedy, decisive, unambiguous
Let Infantino have his World Cup without 3/4 of the better teams and see how his TV paymasters and dynamic pricing plays out then.
Huge shoutout to Aleksander Ceferin btw - a proper leader. He shd get a FIFA Peace Prize 🤓
