Sam LaPorta is getting paid $5M/year with a current market value of at least $18M/year if not higher.
Tight End is a grueling, physical position with not the longest of shelf life and he’s getting paid $13M/year under market.
He’s absolutely right to be frustrated.
Sam LaPorta on not receiving an extension from the Lions, via @PardonMyTake:
"You know, like last year, whatever it was, Week 9, Week 10, you know, I break my fucking back for the team and then I'm going out there this year and I'm balling and maybe they're just not showing the love ... And in three months, if I don't get to wear the Honolulu blue and play for the Lions anymore, it's going to be all good. I'll go get paid somewhere else."
@Kyttiekat3@PaulKoz7 Learn what "at scale" means.
Also, you would absolutely hate Gibbs if next offseason he just refused to play unless he got another extension for a longer period of time.
@Kyttiekat3@PaulKoz7 Fans absolutely think it's a one-way street, because their hierarchy of fandom is: 1. Team 2. Players
Fans at scale do not care about the players' livelihood or betterment. They care about how specific players can further the initiative of the team.
Yes, it's a business and LaPorta is conducting business for his camp too. It's not just about the long-term vision for the team.
Always strange that fans think it's a one-way street in that regard. The player is the asset and ultimately has the leverage. If LaPorta gets tagged, he can just sit out.
@TruthPimp@971theticketxyt Always hilarious know-nothing idiots openly just show their lack of knowledge like this.
LaPorta is one of the best run blockers in the NFL on top of being an elite-level pass catcher. There aren’t 6 TEs in the sport right now who can do what LaPorta does

It never makes sense to compare different contract situations. There are some similarities with situation sure, but there’s zero way to actually know what’s being said behind the scenes verbatim and criticisms can get pointed and ugly in contract disputes.
From a quick search, it sounds like Aidan Hutchinson let his agent handle the entire thing to avoid taking offense to certain things. LaPorta may not have gone that route and in doing so heard some things that rubbed him the wrong way. No real way to know.
That’s why it’s very rarely just a “one side is more wrong that the other” takeaway during contract negotiations imo.
@Reddick3Jackson@itsdbruce7 As someone who used to grab drinks and hangout with LaPorta on occasion, this felt very genuine to me.
Straight forward, honest and definitely in-line with the audience that Barstool goes for. Nothing here felt out of character for him.
@itsdbruce7 Respect is a two-way street.
The Lions were selfish and thinking of themselves when they decided to overlook LaPorta as part of the long-term picture and not entertain extension conversations until after the season.
Always weird to me that fan instinct is to defend ownership.
@teepeefive@UnderdogNFL@PardonMyTake Getting paid $5M with a current market value of at least $18M.
Putting his body on the line and putting wear and tear while getting $13M/year under market. Absolutely right to be upset.
🚨 BREAKING:
Two brothers who paid $1,000 EACH for Milwaukee Brewers "Timeless Tickets" over a decade ago are now accusing the team of NOT honoring its original promise.
Back in 2014, the Brewers sold tickets that never expired and could be redeemed for any future home game, including the World Series.
The brothers held onto their tickets for over a DECADE, waiting for Milwaukee to reach the World Series.
Now that the moment has finally arrived, they say the Brewers are only offering terrace-level seats or standing-room-only tickets instead of the best available seats they believed were promised.
To make matters worse, the brothers say the tickets being offered are worth LESS than the $1,000 they originally paid.
WILD.
One of the biggest surprises I’ve ever seen from a KF presser. I asked him about having two QBs that have won Big Ten road games. Wasn’t even asking him to name a starter and he did it.
Total out of character.
