Interestingly Horus I am a former Hampshire constabulary PC AND would frequent Southampton in the evening, I remember, before I was in the Police I’d walk down this road which had a former church turned Sikh Temple. When I walked down there at night these Sikh men would just open their door and stare at you as you walked down the street. Then when you got further down the road another would come out and watch you.

Really bizarre.

In the same vein as my erstwhile friend Academic Agent, I am retiring my X account, effective immediately. This post will remain pinned, and the account will exist only so that I can use the messaging function for friends and colleagues.

You may have noticed my lack of postings of late, which I attribute to "algorithmic fatigue". You are what you eat, and the same is true of your mental stimulus.

Unfortunately, X is a slop matrix given life, not just because it's a waste of time, but because all the incentives are incorrect.

Much as debates are largely shows of popular support and soundbite politics and therefore entertainment only, X reinforces itself by forcing the mind into the repetitive cycle of clickbait, hoop jumping, and personality clashes.

It's a sickness, at the end of the day, and I am tired of the wasted hours spent doomscrolling through the worst sorts of posts.

If you would like to leave a message, I will read the replies, and if you are a friend or colleague who wishes to convince me of the merits of this app I invite you to try privately, but I doubt I shall be convinced.

I just saw that Academic Agent deleted his 60k+ followers X account. I think his reasons for doing so are sound.

It’s a black hole of doomer horror. It’s certainly not good for your mindset.

I’ve been banned for longer than I’ve had an active account.

I’ll log in twice a week at most and ignore it the rest of the time.

Many of us are in the position of knowing what the problems are, but we don’t need or want to be subjected to seeing them in graphic video form every hour of every day.

That being said, X is still an influential platform in the social and political realm.

Engage at your own risk, I suppose.

I used to be a police officer for Hampshire, they were hypersensitive to most things, someone dropped the word retard and we had lecture after lecture. This was before “woke”.

Most people either had a degree, previously worked for an NGO or had a protected characteristic. I was only accepted, I guess, because my passing score was one of the highest.
