Last week, CEHURD joined Hon. @Leniacharity - Member of Parliament for Vurra County, and partners in taking a Free Health Camp to communities in Arivu Sub-County, reaching residents in Ulupi, Eceko and Bondo Health Centre, including communities in Ombavu, Omoo, Pajulu and Awika in Northern Uganda.
The health camp provided an opportunity for community members to learn about #SelfCare and access health services closer to home.
We were pleased to participate alongside @OxfaminUganda, @RHUganda, @DoingItForHerug, Arua Regional Referral Hospital, Vurra Health Centres, Awini Initiative Africa and @UgandaRedCross Society, among other partners.

For many men, bringing health services closer can make the difference between delaying care and getting screened in time.
In this article, Ndungu Robert (@RobUgElite), TB Contact Tracing Officer at CEHURD, explores how Male Action Groups are bringing integrated #HIV, #TB and malaria screening and referral services closer to men in Gulu, Lira and Arua.
Through Male Champions, community outreaches and mobile diagnostic services, the model is helping reach men where they live, work and spend their time.

Two recent publications in the @DailyMonitor point to a broader health and human rights concern - Uganda is generating important evidence about who is being affected, where the burden is concentrated, and how our prevention efforts need to respond.
On Tuesday, 18 August 2026, the Daily Monitor reported findings from a @UgandaCancerIns Institute study showing significant differences in cancer cases across regions and between women and men. The report recorded 35,968 cancer cases in 2022, with some regions carrying a much heavier burden than others.
Today, 24 August 2026, the Daily Monitor reports that 𝗞𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗹𝗮 𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟬 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗛𝗜𝗩 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸, based on a study by the @KCCAUG. The report also shows that women accounted for 62% of the new HIV-positive cases identified in the study.
These numbers should make us pause.
They tell us more than the scale of the health challenges. The question, therefore, should not stop at 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘺? It should be - What are we doing with this evidence?
Are prevention programmes reaching the communities and populations carrying the greatest burden? Are people able to access timely testing, early diagnosis and quality treatment? Are health services responding to the realities that put women, young people and other vulnerable populations at greater risk? And are resources being directed where the need is greatest?
Beyond informing reports and headlines, this health data should influence policy, guide resource allocation, strengthen prevention and improve access to care.

@GalaxyFMUg So hurtful 😭seeing the kids i met at Sipi falls like this … they were very joyful during the tour session: May the souls of innocent children RIP🙏
Mr President @KagutaMuseveni I know you remember this day, when we met you at the Stare House Entebbe and you promised to ensure medical interns issues are resolved after listening to us.
In fact following this meeting you released a directive that medical interns get paid 2.5M monthly. And now they’re telling them to work without pay 💔
Mr President we are coming back to you to ressolve the impasse if the people at the ministry of health insist on that policy. 🙏

Ending TB is possible when communities lead the response. As we mark World TB Day, CEHURD continues to deliver community-led TB interventions through contact tracing & TB CAST+ campaigns—driving better case detection & linkage to care @cehurduganda#EndTB
At the start of each year, we convene as one institution to reflect, reset, and align. Our annual staff retreat creates space to assess where we are, clarify where we are headed, and agree on how we move forward together.

On #WorldCancerDay, I salute Oncologists at the Frontline of treating cancer. Thanks to Uganda Gvt for making treatment available. We need a Pet Scanner, more space for patients & carers & strong prevention prog. Not many can afford a Pet scan abroad @MinofHealthUG@cehurduganda
Today, 4 February, we come together once again to mark #WorldCancerDay. We embrace the #UnitedByUnique campaign and its people-centred approach, placing individuals, families, and communities at the heart of cancer care that respects diverse needs and lived experiences.
Cancer remains a significant health challenge in Uganda, with an estimated 36,000 new cases and nearly 25,000 deaths recorded each year - a burden that strains families, communities, and health systems.
In Uganda, breast, cervical, prostate, lung, colorectal, and liver cancers continue to devastate lives, bringing physical pain, emotional distress, economic strain, and social isolation for patients and their loved ones.
Join us in advocating for early screening, equitable access to care, and rights-based policies.
Government must invest in people-centred cancer care. Health systems must prioritise prevention and early diagnosis. Communities must speak up, challenge stigma, hold duty bearers accountable, and support those affected.
