Very serious allegations are circulating on social media concerning the child who was the most seriously injured following Thursdays knife attack by a male of Algerian derivation.

There is a blanket of silence around her condition, absolutely no update. That in itself is highly unusual, while privacy must be respected, this is also a public interest matter, and normal protocols would mean press statements and regular updates.

We now suspect that the child is not Polish but Ukrainian. This is in part because of a ‘tweet’ purported to be by the child’s aunt in which it is claimed that the parents are being threatened by the Gardai with ‘hate speech’ should they speak in public, that it is an offence to speak about a live crime investigation and furthermore no photographs may be taken or shared. It has been reported that the father was threatened with jail as a result of ‘people of Ireland are turning on refugees’.

I have tried to find out what the true situation is but without success. However I spoke to a well known political and media advisor whose opinions I have always found to be well grounded and proportionate and like me he also believes on the balance of probabilities that the ‘tweet’ is genuine, especially in the absence of contradictory information.

These are parents at their most vulnerable, immigrants, language, and lack of familiarity with the law. The ‘tweet’ also said that the doctors were providing no information and referring the parents to the Gardai who told them to ‘relax’ and say nothing. Other information circulating on social media claims that the child is on life support and unlikely to survive. This could mean brain death.

Again, there is no evidence, but the very silence coming from all official sources is extremely worrying. Could it be that the government is playing for time, that they are desperate, especially if the child has died or unlikely to come off life support.

That their one and only concern is the inevitable massive backlash that they know will happen if that child does not survive. They know that a reckless ‘open borders’ policy has moved this nation to breaking point.

Although the attacker as so often pointed out is an ‘Irish Citizen’ that means absolutely nothing in the minds of most rational and caring people. The government can not hide behind silence for ever, the grotesqueries of a cover up on an already unimaginably tragic situation are difficult to fathom or understand.

This truth can not be suppressed for ever, whatever the fine print may show. It will emerge today, tomorrow or very soon and when it does there will be a day of reckoning unlike ever seen before. Censorship and silence breeds misinformation and public disquiet.

The government has a duty to issue a statement, an update that should have been issues days ago. I repeat, what is happening, the way this is being handled is totally out of kilter with other cases not involving migrant violence.

The public are entitled to make reasonable enquiry and get reasonable answers that don’t breach privacy. None of this is happening. But if even a fraction of what is being speculated on is true the government must resign.

A government colluding in such a cover-up would be totally unworthy of the respect of its citizens or indeed of the European family of nations.

I am calling for an immediate statement of clarity to be issued today to defuse the mounting anger and righteous indignation of a people that the governing elite choose to treat as fools. But at all times our focus and prayers must be on the family and indeed the teacher who is also in a serious condition. We need truthful information now.
