@HambrickScott Have read it again. I think I have understood it - it seems you are lamenting that the temporary (and the meaningless) is consuming the ephemeral in terms of what society values. I agree, but I also see a type of (lesser) value in adapting to the world as it (unfortunately) is.

@HambrickScott In a world of constant (and seemingly ever increasing) change, I'd argue that it is pragmatic. I don't disagree that wisdom rules the roost as the essential foundation, and the situation is sad, but I wouldn't simply refuse to engage with the rest.

As the half life of knowledge decreases due to technological change, knowing how to adapt becomes the all-important skill. At the same time, the value of wisdom surges - in a storm, it pays to have a solid foundation.
